Mr. Hitchens did not have a "hissy fit" even an "understated" one, nor did he appear fanatical in stating his preference to be called by his given name, Christopher. He merely said, "Christopher."
Scarborough mocked him for it which is inexcusable however much of a "regular guy" type Scarborough wishes to be considered by practising a phony egalitarianism that is essentially hostile.
You may have "a thing" about people who ask that you address tham properly, but having read your posts over the years I doubt that you would behave as Scarborough did.
It is not petty to want to be treated respectfully regarding the most intensely personal aspect of our self, our names. b.
Wow, thank you. I had no idea anyone read my posts.
Maybe I over-reacted and you are certainly correct. Hitchens calmly said, "Christopher."
Nothing at all rude, there.
However, it annoyed me. I think it all goes back to this woman in my Bible Class who DOES have a hissy fit if anyone calls her by anything other than her full name. She also wears feminist t-shirts to class.
We are all products of our previous existence. Sorry, Mr. Hitchens (I mean Christopher)
Thank you for saying that. My sentiments exactly.
My name was butchered in early school years, leaving me with a definite preference for the full use of it, or simply being called (in writing) G, or GM, Gem. I don't think it's petty to desire to have one's preference for a name honored. The pettiness, IMO, is on the part of those who refuse to comply with something so simple and polite.
