But hey,,,,if smoking around your children in your eyes is perfectly safe, fine,,,it's a free country. I never said any different.I'm no longer 'smoking around kids.' My daughter is grown, married with a babe of her own.
So, since you control the thread, why don't you just spellout all the other offensive things you don't want to hear an alternative view on. God forbid someone steps on your rabid, "the placenta filters everything" toes (funny how babies are born with drugs and chemicals in their bloodstream based on what their moms have ingested and inhaled)....oh but that's just "pansy" science, right?
It's not my thread to control. I didn't post this thread. And for your information, all I did was smoke. I never ingested hard core drugs when I was pregnant, nor did I ever ingest hard core drugs in my life.
Thanks for the warm welcome but I've been here for awhile.
Two weeks. :)

when the baby is born, she ( the MaMa) is permanently sterilized. Haha! That's cute.
Think I will return to Free Republic now. I think I fell into DU hell!

I'm kind of taken aback by the replies in this thread & even the comments from the OP. It is a risk to smoke while pregnant. Why the inflammatory comments? She may well be a Republican & not some left-winger like so many are assuming & implying. How can you possibly know either way? And, based on the many anecdotes added to this argument (which really have no bearing on proving anything), the only way to produce a healthy, intelligent human is to smoke, smoke, & smoke some more while pregnant. Sounds like many breastfeeding vs. formula feeding arguments I've heard/witnessed/taken part in. Many people take it personally when you say one is inferior to the other & they proceed to come out of the woodwork with their genius children who happen to have been formula fed. It's pretty predictable with these types of debates.

I didn't attack your personally....your responses act like I am attacking you,,,why is that?

Ok - I just had to jump in here (partly so I could get my welcome to FR from you, also, but here is what I am seeing, in reviewing the research: Smoking robs the developing baby of oxygen. Besides restricting blood flow to the womb, maternal cigarette smoking decreases the amount of oxygen available to the baby from the blood. The level of carbon monoxide in the blood of pregnant women who smoke is 600 700 percent higher than in those who don't smoke. Carbon monoxide is an oxygen blocker, meaning it prevents blood cells from carrying a full load of oxygen. Lack of oxygen can affect the development of every organ in the baby's body. Now, in general, it is NOT recommended that fetal size be tailored by ingesting various substances to adjust it based on maternal preference - just my $0.02. And yes, I'm male - hope that doesn't disqualify me from the discussion.

its not the smoking....my mother smoked like a chimney and yet she was a great mother....
its standing there for the media doing something she knows is unhealthy for her and her unborn child...and still has the audacity to question construction noise....
my mom never knew the dangers until she was well addicted...
btw...she's 80 now and only quit the smokes because of her heart attack a few years back.....lol

IMHO,,it's both, the smoking and the hypocrisy of worrying about the jackhammer noise at the same time.
This is apparently not a popular view.

You picked my brain my friend! You beat me to it!

What good is the placenta then? The placenta is what screens out the poisons that enter a woman's body. That is the most ignorant thing I've read here in a long time. I suppose fetal alcohol syndrome is just a myth?

What comments by the OP (me) did you object to? You seem to be agreeing with everything I've said on here.

My apologies. I saw the keywords & assumed you had entered them, but apparently anyone can add them to your post. I'm new here, so I'll just blame it on my greenness ;-)
