It will be very difficult to tell who is actually telling the truth in this mess, but a simple check of phone records could easily establish how many times Burkett and Lockhart talked on the phone and for how long.Where's Lily Tomlin (from Laugh In) when we need her???

You have to love that picture of Thurston and Lovey on Drudge. Anyone skilled enough to get it posted here? I hate to see it disappear.
It would make a great caption this pic thread.

Lockhart's story was simply unbelievable. Burkett wouldn't even casually mention these memos, after all he went through to talk to senior Kerry officials.
My six-year-old can come up with better excuses when she's been caught with her hand in the cookie jar.

It must be true, since according to Dan Rather, Burkett is a very reliable source.

Remember Lockharts story that he called Burkett at the request of CBS News and all they discussed were the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth?
Lockhart slipped up by admitting this. Why would Burkett, a former Texas Air National Guard member with Bush have any concern about the Swift Boat Veterans? The line is slipped in the story so casually that it comes across as providing an alibi for Lockhart.
It doesn't make sense that Lockhart and Burkett would have anything of substance to discuss for 3 - 4 minutes about the Swift Boat vets. What could Burkett (AIR National Guard) have to say about them (US Navy) that would materially impact their claims about Kerry? In a word - nada. Lockhart just gave the FEC a link between the Kerry campaign and the admitted source (to date) of the forged NG memos.
This story just keeps getting better.

It looks to me like the whole story Burkett/Cleland/Mapes/Lockhart story has been constructed to provide a harmless explaination for the damning telephone records. Given the pattern of telephone calls, the far more obvious conclusion is that Burkett gave the docs to Cleland (or received the docs from Cleland... How far is it from Abeliene to Crawford), provided the Docs to Mapes, who provided them to Lockhart, who then verified the source with Burkett. If Burkett goes public, it blows the whole pasted together story out of the water, and people will have to accept the obvious conclusion that it was a DNC/CBS set-up from the git-go.

Let me just make a prediction:
According to a CBS quote yesterday, they said they said the DNC were "pretty satisfied" that other staff had not contacted Burkett.
"Pretty satisfied" doesn't mean much, they would have outright denied it if there had been no other persons contacting Burkett.
Phone records will easily prove their claim...betcha we've got more than one person in the DNC/Kerry group that's had contact with Burkett.
Burkett himself said he talked to staffers and kept getting moved from one to another.

Who is going to conduct an investigation? And will anything be done/resolved before the election? Officials in Texas have already stated that they believe no one in Texas was harmed, so they will not be investigating. Byron York was on Laura Ingraham this morning & indicated that the Feds might not want to look like they are influencing the election & being vindictive & he hinted they may not investigate. The only "investigation" is of CBS by Thornburgh, but this probably will not cover any aspect other than CBS's handling of the matter.
On another matter, if Lucy Ramirez exists & that part of the story is true, then why did she seek out Bill Burkett? Of all the people to whom these docs could be passed, why Burkett? How did she even know him & that he had any or could obtain any connections to CBS &/or the DNC?
