DAN'S FINAL DAYS?
New York Post ^ | 9/24/04

Sumner Redstone, chief honcho at CBS parent company Viacom, yes terday told a convocation of senior corporate executives that he is "very concerned" about Dan Rather's now-infamous "60 Minutes" report on President Bush's military record.

As well he should be. The reputation of what was once America's premier television news network was shredded by Rather's credulous embrace of documents that most charitably can be termed amateurish forgeries.

The whole affair is now the subject of an independent probe — and Rather is hot under the collar.

Not with the idea of an investigation, or so he says. (Though given everything that's already come out about the way he and producer Mary Mapes handled the National Guard story, he can't be looking forward to any genuine probe.)

No, Rather doesn't like the fact that one of those named to look into his conduct is — gasp! — a Republican.

And not just any Republican, but one who in the past worked for two presidents — Richard Nixon and the first George Bush — with whom Rather had notorious public clashes.

[snip]

At the very least, CBS should take Rather off the air — and suspend those who worked on the phony documents story — pending the results of the investigation.

After that — well, Redstone said yesterday that the results of the probe would be "appropriate" — adding, ominously, that "the consequences will be appropriate" as well.

Courage, Dan.

..."but Viacom would be better served by Bush being reelected ... "

Redstone's red herring 'endorsement is simply a PR response to the eyeballs, millions and millions of eyeballs, that are squarely on him, CBS, and Rather. He knows that media scrutiny, a very, very rare event in the 'media' itself, is absolutely very bad for everyone in the liberal-run media. They cannot, cannot! be ignored ... for its the primary weapon for their agenda and objectives.

Bottom line .... he has been on the phone a lot recently w/ his liberal mogul buds, getting his a** ripped. The conversations basically go like this: 'get the media OFF the front pages, headlines, etc, etc, right now; we've been too exposed as it is'.

And b/c he's loyal to them, and not the truth, he has nothing to lose, and lots of diversion to gain, by lying through his 80 year old plus Bostonian teeth.

I would bet he's related to Kerry.
