Wouldn't it be great if we got Bin Laden..and this National Guard story was connected DIRECTLY to Kerry himself.
CONTROVERSIAL TEXAS RANCHER SAYS LOCKHART WANTED DOCUMENTS // The source of a disputed CBSNEWS report claimed Thursday that Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart tried to "convince me as to why I should give them the documents." Texas Army National Guard Lt. Col. Bill Burkett tells the FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM that he has suffered four seizures since being identified as CBS' source and dogged by the media... Developing...
Well, ya just had to ask that question! I read the article too, and I didn't see where he was alleging that Lockhart asked him for the documents. So unless there is another source for the charge, it's all been a fun time posting, nothing more.
"I was absolutely and clearly told that that was as far as anyone could go without crossing the line of [journalistic] ethics," Burkett said.
During a single phone conversation with Lockhart, Burkett said he suggested a "couple of concepts on what I thought [Kerry] had to do" to beat Bush. In return, he said, Lockhart tried to "convince me as to why I should give them the documents."
This makes my head hurt, but I'll try my best. He is reported to have had a meeting with CBS, in which he gave them the documents. At that time he is told his phone number would be passed to Lockhart. Then, in a conversation with Lockhart, Lockhart tries to convence him as to why he should give them the documents.
1. The article reads as if Burkett had a meeting and gave CBS the documents.
2. Subsequently he meets with Lockhart who tries to convince him to give "them" the documents. But he had already given "them" the documents. Unless - he is saying that he had already given CBS the documents, and Lockhart was trying to convince him to give "them" - meaning the Kerry campaign, the documents.
