DEAD SOLDIERS

BY RALPH PETERS --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

September 23, 2004 -- IMAGINE if, in the presiden tial election of 1944, the can didate opposing FDR had in sisted that we were losing the Second World War and that, if elected, he would begin to withdraw American troops from Europe and the Pacific. We would have called it treason. And we would have been right.

In WWII, broadcasts from Tokyo Rose in Japan and from Axis Sally in Germany warned our troops that their lives were being squandered in vain, that they were dying for big business and "the Jew" Roosevelt.

Today, we have a presidential candidate, the conscienceless Sen. John Kerry, doing the work of the enemy propagandists of yesteryear.

And Kerry calls the Interim Prime Minister a liar. What an odious troll he is.

The comment on the dems during the Civil War is almost a mirror of them today, wanting to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Kerry is in a time warp - he think's its 1971 again. That's fine - any day now he'll call our troops in Iraq war criminals and that will be it.

I watched the movie "The Best Years of Our Lives" last night...great WWII movie. My spouse had never seen the movie and was amazed and how similar things are today. There have always been detractors and people who question the motives for war. The scene in the diner were the guy orders his sandwich and starts telling the soldier, who had just returned from war (minus his hands) about reading the newspapers to get the truth on the war and how the "japs" were not our enemy. Man! Never changes.

Both Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose were convicted of treason.

Out of the 12 Americans indicted for treason following World War II, all but five were radio broadcasters -- a fact all of us at WFMU can be proud of. One of the most notorious to be convicted was Mildred Gillars, or "Axis Sally" as she was known to the GI's who heard her Radio Berlin broadcasts.
http://wfmu.org/LCD/GreatDJ/AxisSal.html

They called her Tokyo Rose -- a temptress of the vilest kind. A woman who used the airwaves to taunt America's fighting men in the Pacific during the bloody, brutal battles of World War II. A federal jury convicted her of treason and sentenced her to ten years in prison in 1949

Big difference between then and now. In WWII we were fighting on the same side as Uncle Joe and his Red Army. The left hasn't changed, as they were for the hammer and sickle then, they were for it in VietNam and they're for it today. If Uncle Joe had been on Hitler's side (as he was until Hitler double crossed him and invaded) the left would have been (and in fact was) as anti-war then as they are today. Sad but true.
