I've subscribed to Science News for many years...they at least keep their political ideas to themselves unlike Scientific American which I cancelled earlier this year after their Bush 'hit' piece.
Yup. me too. The Milton Wolfpot(sp) version.
Just an honest question:
If Neaderthals were so much like us, what killed them off?
Two separately distinct groups... like some people who have remarkably high IQ's but couldn't tie shoe laces or can barely tie them and them what can tie thar shoes and walk upright 'n such, what have common sense but couldn't tell ya whar the Mason-Dixon line is and what'd be below it.
Then there are all the folks in between.
So you see, it's the question itself that has been used to shape the debate. The Neandertal EnigmaFrayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]

Where do you get this "we" stuhlgang, white man?
Now, Kerry is a neanderthal, Rather is definitely one. Just look at the backs of their hands.
I've subscribed to Science News for many years...they at least keep their political ideas to themselves unlike Scientific American which I cancelled earlier this year after their Bush 'hit' piece.I've never subscribed to it, but their political stance has been obvious for a while. It's no accident that Michael Shermer, the Skepticultist, writes for them now. His mag joined in the hate crimes perpetrated against Bjorn Lomborg.
I do think that Sciam's failed "Discovering Archaeology" -- which failed despite B&N's push of it at the expense of BAR's "Archaeology Odyssey" which is still around and excellent -- should have shown them something. Guess not.

See my post #1 where I said, "We are Neanderthals. I think they/we were assimilated.
Some interesting reading here also: The Neanderthal Theory
I kinda liked "Discovering Archaeology." Are you recommending "Archaeology Odyssey"?
