I second that. I worry about scaring some really great people away because there may be a few overzealous FReepers eager to catch the next DU troll.

Zeal in the cause of security is no vice.
And it's not merely a game, our hunting of trolls.
It's helping to police the threads for these cretinous people who would simply post something, burn JimRob's bandwidth, and who would waste our time and talents responding uselessly and in vain.
It's also rooting out those who wish nothing more than cause discord and division, who are miserable dweebs who can only feel powerful by making others diminished.
We have had newbie trolls, sleeper trolls, Discordians, and those who are just plain mean. We have had scam artists, and purposeful disruptors. I have had friends, and myself, fall prey and victim to them in the past - but never again.
Because "the price of freedom is eternal vigilance."

I am not personally worried about people being frightened away from FR. I think the vast majority of people who visit this site read the posts and commentary on the site for a while before registering. I am a long time lurker to this site, but only recently registered. My husband still just lurks, but we both have been reading the posts and discussions since long before Monica Lewinsky.
Many of us were so relieved when Rush came on the scene, because there was finally someone who was "speaking our language". Since that time there has been a momentum building for more accurate reporting. I think most of us stopped getting our news from the MSM a long time ago, and along with this trend came sites like Drudge, FR, and other Internet sites, and Fox News. Old Media is dying and has been for some time, at least with those of us who share a more conservative view. They will suffer a complete and total death unless they come to terms with the fact that we expect them to report the facts, and not to create or color the news with their left wing bias.

"I worry about scaring some really great people away .." Fear not. "really great people" have thick skins, don't care what others think of them, and are incapable of being "scared" off".
