1. I'm sorry but I've lived in the Bay Area. Although it is sad to see the city spiraling low, comparing it to a city controlled by terrorists can most charitably be called ignorant.
2. I'm not saying that Iraq is a failure. Far from it. From soldiers I talk to, most of the country is under control. However, they worry about being sent into terror strongholds like Fallujah and being pulled out before the job is done, because they will only have to go back in against terrorists who have now had a chance to see U.S. tactics and develop countermeasures (as the AQ backed terrorists did in Somalia).
To argue that allowing those hotbeds of terror to exist is a success would be akin to a doctor operating on you for cancer but leaving pockets of tumors behind when he has the ability to get it all. Would you honestly think he had done a good job? Or would you go find a doc willing to cut it all out?
