(CBS) Below is the text of the CBS News statement on its use of documents purportedly written by President Bush's National Guard commander:
Bill Burkett, in a weekend interview with CBS News Anchor and Correspondent Dan Rather, has acknowledged that he provided the now-disputed documents used in the Sept. 8 "60 Minutes Wednesday" report on President Bushs service in the Texas Air National Guard.
Burkett, a retired National Guard lieutenant colonel, also admits that he deliberately misled the CBS News producer working on the report, giving her a false account of the documents origins to protect a promise of confidentiality to the actual source.

Can you say.....DNC??
But the big question is, to whom did he provide the documents, and where did he get them? Observe that the statement goes on to say, "Burkett, a retired National Guard lieutenant colonel, also admits that he deliberately misled the CBS News producer working on the report, giving her a false account of the documents origins to protect a promise of confidentiality to the actual sourceSo who is the "actual source?" Source of what, the documents themselves or CBS's source? The clear implication is that this source is someone other from Burkett himself. Max Cleland?
Actually, no. This thread is the CBS statement, your thread is the Rather statement. Two different animals entirely.
See post #15
Actually, I think this item is different than the one that you link you. Your link goes to a statement from CBS. This post is a news article from CBS that provides new information -- they're two different things.
---'60 Minutes Wednesday' had full confidence in the original report or it would not have aired. However, in the wake of serious and disturbing questions that came up after the broadcast, CBS News has done extensive additional reporting in an effort to confirm the documents authenticity. ---
"extensive additional reporting"...We plugged Burkett into a wall socket until his head smoked...
Kerry's campaign is now dead. Burkett will be linked to Kerry within 10 days.
Unless they place the guys @ Powerline or other like minded individuals on the independent commission, it's a sham.
They still hang on to the bushbashing stuff---Incredable!
Dan, being a true professional has already moved on to his new assignemnt..........Hi folks, its me Dan McRather, would you like to supersize that order or how about some fries !
Re post # 19:
Too funny!!!!
Arrest...Arrest...Arrest.....and don't stop until the DNC is behind bars.
This has not already been posted. This is a separate statement, and includes the new news that Burkett claims he got the docs from another source.
CBS is insane. If they think this is enough to stop the floodgates, they're dead wrong.
This one goes to the top of CBS and the DNC.
The part at the end of the Dan Rather Statement, where he resigns from CBS, was the most impressive!!
The DNC, there's little doubt.
