"Those officials, who asked not to be identified, said CBS News would most likely make an announcement as early as today that it had been deceived about the documents' origins, and that it was mounting an intensive news investigation of where they came from."
Maybe they should start by asking Danny Boy.

There's a word for people like those at CBS: "Twits"

Those officials, who asked not to be identified, said CBS News would most likely make an announcement as early as today that it had been deceived about the documents' origins, and that it was mounting an intensive news investigation of where they came from.First, what cowards, and second, it sure took that clown outfit CBS long enough to figure out what the rest of the world knew a week ago.

This is going to be big, big, big- much bigger than Jayson Blair. Dan Rather didn't "burn down his master's house," he brought it down w/ a nuclear bomb. So long, CBS news.

Here is some free advice for Mapes and Rather -- you might want to think about hiring a good lawyer.

"But these people cautioned that CBS News could still pull back from an announcement." Don't listen to 'em captain Dan. That great white whale is right there in front of you. Throw the harpoon now captain Dan, throw it!
Tune next week kiddies for stirring stories of Dan Quixote!

... but the story is correct. We know, because Buckhead is a GOP lawyer. We only used the documents to dramatize the point.

I thought that "60 Minutes" had incredible, amazing, bulletproof fact checking resources far beyond the understanding of mere mortals. How can this be?

Sandy Genelius, a network spokeswoman, said last week, "We are confident about the chain of custody; we're confident in how we secured the documents.''You moron. You flaming idiot. This is like being confident that you have an absolutely, utterly, completely accurate map of Chicago - except the problem is that you're in Miami. Who gives a rip about their chain of custody? THE DOCUMENTS ARE FAKE.
CBS would do well to remember the #1 lesson of Watergate - the coverup is ALWAYS worse than the crime. Always. Every single time.
Fess up, throw yourselves on the mercy of the American people, and hope for the best.

Ever since the ratings information was published, this was the invevitable result. When CBS news lost to all its regular competition AND to re-runs of the Simpsons, etc., Rather was toast. For Rather it was all about power and ideology; for the bosses, it is a tad about honest journalism but mostly and primarily about money. No ratings, no revenues; no revenues, good-bye Dan.

I believe that Rather will be okay for the short term.
Mapes, on the other hand, is about to get what she has comming.
I *hope* this is true and we can get back to cleaning Kerry's clock on the issues. That said, however, I believe that the Kerry campaign MUST take responsibility for this (that and the collusive media).

HOW ABOUT AN APOLOGY TO PRESIDENT BUSH??????
To: LibWhacker
'Misled' might have passed the test for the folks still giving you guys the benefit of the doubt a week ago.
After insisting for a week that they are true despite every expert including your own coming out against, dragging an old Lady on air, and challenging Bush AGAIN to respond to the forgeries, well, the ship has sailed on 'misled'.
We are not talking collusion to pass a fraud off on the American people against a sitting President.
To: LibWhacker
White House officials have said they saw no reason to challenge documents that had been presented by a credible news organization. The Bush White House responses to Rathergate have been priceless!

Officials were meeting last night with Dan Rather, the anchor who presented the report, to go over the information it has collected about the documents one last time before making a final decision. Wouldn't we all have loved to have been a fly on the wall in THAT room?
"Just WHAT were you thinking, Dan?"

Mr. Rather and others at the network are said to still believe that the sentiment in the memos accurately reflected Mr. Killian's feelings, but that the documents' authenticity is now in grave doubt.Does this reporter have any idea how ridiculous this sounds?
