The CBS quotations of Pierce come from a 'Professional Opinion' memo Pierce sent to "60 Minutes" staff on Sept. 14, which was then posted as a PDF document on the CBS News Web site (along with Pierce's home address in the letterhead). But to hear James Pierce tell it, his experience seems to parallel that of James and Will.
This columnist contacted Pierce by telephone Sept. 16. He said he was unable to talk specifically about the work he has been doing for CBS, because - contrary to how CBS News portrays it - he says he has not yet in fact rendered a definitive conclusion on all, or even some, of the documents in question.
According to Pierce, his 'Professional Opinion' letter was only a preliminary opinion, not a final judgment. "They didn't inform me that they were using it for that purpose," Pierce said, referring to the "Professional Opinion" memo. "CBS is wrong."

Welcome!
"This place is a sausage grinder for the truth."
Well put. We have our theories and guesses and hopes and such, but you also see that the thirst for the real story is paramount. Those who cling to discredited hypotheses find no support here and usually do not stay around long.
This is one quality which distinguishes us from the Left. The unabashed leftist will readily admit that The Cause is the thing, and hewing to the truth is of secondary importance. As Conservatives, we trust that knowing the truth will enable us to safeguard our freedom.

Danron, I like that much better than Rathergate or Memogate. The latter are so 70s.
To be sure, his reputation is damaged, but from the interview he didn't even seem to be in that territory.
The mechanisms that helps create an environment of truth seeking are cool. Recognition of achievements (Bumps) and (pings) and culture that requests and requires sources rather than unsubstantiated opinions in an echo chamber.
Also, I think the last several scandals, and a press that is oh so willing to ram it in our tails, has taught us to just hang it out and not try to do the cover up thing.
The press being a big pain has taught us how to communicate because they wouldn't and they have taught us that the truth can be slowed but it cannot be stopped. Its the Dems who have become the victims of their lopsided coverage, allowing them to get so far out on a limb that just finally couldn't hold the weight.

Do you know if the president ever saw the fake documents?
