Your scenario doesn't make sense given Barnes had already created a video in May that contained the same info he told Rather on 60 Minutes. 60 Minutes needed the documents to add more drama along with Barnes' dramatic confession. Now, was there a plan hatched way back in the spring? Perhaps.

For the record, the footage for these clips was shot this past May. We conducted a sit-down interview on Tuesday, May 25th, and then, almost as an afterthought, we taped his speech at our MeetUp on Thursday May 27th. The clips were edited together over the following month and posted on the morning of Friday, June 25th. They've been online ever since

Well, sure, Barnes had decided to change his story sometime back. We know that already. He told his daughter his plot, remember..?

The difference is he made some little video of no consequence to go on the internet. Going prime-time with CBS 60 Minutes is a bit different. You gotta have something to bring. He wouldn't go to CBS with it if he didn't have some hard "evidence" to bring along first.

Not even 60 Minutes would run a story based on 100% eyewitness accounts and hearsay.

Anyone can make an accusation (which is what CBS has been reduced to now). But an accusation with no proof is worthless and wouldn't have seen air.

Barnes had already created a video in May that contained the same info he told Rather on 60 Minutes.

If he had already created a video making these allegations, then why had he not volunteered to repeat them with Dan Rather earlier.

The key here is not Barnes willingness to make the allegations (which are opposite to what he testified under oath in 1999, anyway). The key is Barnes willingness to go public on CBS with Dan Rather.

That didn't happen until after Burkett had "reassembled the file"...
