Politics in Gainesville turned rough and tumble Thursday night when, police say, a social behavior sciences instructor - a Democrat - punched the chairman of the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee in the face.

David Philip McCally, 55, of Gainesville faces misdemeanor battery and criminal mischief charges after he was accused of hitting both committee chairman Travis Horn, 32, and a life-sized, cardboard cutout of President George Bush.

The incident occurred at the Republican headquarters in downtown Gainesville at about 7:30 p.m.

Such wonderful peaceful people, these Democrats... [/sarcasm]

Seriously, I have a sickening feeling that there are going to be riots after W trounces Kerry in the election.

I think the University Behavioral Science Board needs to rethink the instructors employment future. If this is how he acts how can he teach?

Yeah, they really are cracking up! It's half funny and half sad, alarming, and frightening. When they terrorize little 3 year old girls it angers me beyond measure.

This 55 year old punk crankgeezer is a LOSER! These people are just like the Nazi's I've read about all these years and heard about from my folks who grew up in WWII Germany. The difference is that they're not in charge and armed. Otherwise I'm sure "KrystalNacht" would be right around the corner.

Democrats seem to be getting more violent and crazy as their candidate drops further in the polls.

We should probably be glad that they are so anti-gun.

I'm glad Horn got the better of him.

More compassion and tolerance from a Democrat. Geez, if they get more tolerant the GOP will have to carry heat!!!

At least this time the attack victim was a grown man instead of cute little girl. Gotta give the dems credit for that.....I guess :) :)

and a life-sized, cardboard cutout of President George Bush

They are available at the Republican headquarters where I volunteer also. So I do believe that they are available nation wide through the Republican party.

No, I'm not Travis - just a person who go tired of this behavior by dems in Gainesville. Tired of the GOP candidate signs being torn up on the highways, tired of hearing about Bushilter from neighbors. This guy is representative of alot of Dem feeling in this county. Luckily, GWB leads John F'in Kerry by about $99,000 to $48,000 in fundraising in Gainesville. Talk really is cheap from Dems in this county.

BTW. I read in an article about Travis that he is a vet of the First Gulf War. He did not serve with John F'in Kerry though.

This loon should be a social behavior lab rat rather than instructor.
