GLENDORA -- Two radio talk show hosts held a "Fire Dreier' rally Thursday, criticizing a local Republican Congressman for doing nothing to keep illegal immigrants from coming into the United States. KFI AM-640 listeners came to the rally next to the office of Rep. David Dreier on Route 66 armed with protest signs and bullhorns. Many honked their horns in support of the rally, which lasted from 3 to 7 p.m. Police said several hundred people came and went during the rally.
In the first of several events aimed at boosting support for the cause, the radio station decorated a vacant lot near Dreier's office to look mildly similar to the set of CBS' reality show "Survivor,' as a "tribal savage' in a grass skirt and bone necklaces danced to pounding drums.
Mocking a bowling party Dreier hosted before the start of the Republican National Convention last month, the show taped Dreier's face to a number of plastic bowling pins, then lined them up for demonstrators to knock down.
Dreier was not in his office during the demonstration and staffers declined requests from some demonstrators to face the crowd.
Earlier in the day, Dreier, 52, told the Claremont Kiwanis Club he was going to introduce legislation establishing a national identification card and a guest-worker program.
Dreier's opponent, Democrat Cynthia Matthews, said the 24-year veteran has failed to keep illegal immigrants from crossing into the United States and costing taxpayers billions of dollars.
Talk-radio hosts John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou held a contest and made Dreier the GOP's "sacrificial lamb.' They are encouraging people not to vote for him in November. They say illegal immigrants are wreaking havoc on the state's economy by cluttering freeways, prisons, hospitals and schools.
Dreier, chair of the powerful House Rules Committee, did not return calls seeking comment about the rally.
His district director, Mark Harmsen, said hundreds of angry Dreier supporters called the office and said they wanted to go to the rally, but were discouraged from attending.
"We wanted to avoid any confrontations,' Harmsen said.
Harmsen said Kobylt and Chiampou didn't put one Republican on the air who said they lived in the 26th District and who said they would not vote for Dreier.
However, Chris Macaulay, 51, of La Verne, said he has voted for Dreier since 1980, but that he's fed up with the lawmaker saying one thing, but voting for another.
"He says he is for protecting the border and stopping illegal immigration, but his actions don't back up his words. The matricular consular he voted for the other day is a security problem,' said Macaulay, a self-employed real estate agent. "It opens the door to get the most secure documents in our country like a driver's license.'
Earlier in the day, Dreier said he was going to introduce legislation next week establishing a counterfeit-proof, biometric, photo-embedded national identification card required for anyone looking for a new job.
"It's not just for immigrants it's for everyone. Immigrants should not be singled out,' Dreier said.
Dreier said the cards would reduce illegal border crossings.
He also said he'll introduce legislation that would establish a guest-worker program allowing immigrants to go back and forth between the United States and their home country.
Oftentimes, he said, illegals don't return to their country because they don't have enough money to pay smugglers to get them back over the border.
"This would be documentation of those who are here. We don't want to reward illegal behavior,' Dreier said, adding that there are 15 million illegal immigrants in the United States, mostly in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Assuming you succeed, when you go up and demand favors, the GOP will ask, "So what did you do for us lately?"
Y'all's response: "Well, we bounced David Dreier out of office last year."
And the GOP will say, "Well, then, go ask the Democrats for your goodies--they owe you the favor, not us."
Y'all: "But the Democrats aren't in the majority, and they hate us anyway."
GOP: "Gosh, maybe you should've thought about that little detail before you threw Dreier out of office."
American citizens have to work 40 quarters. Mexican citizens are exempt from this requirement according to the terms of the Totalization treaty.
I posted in a reply to you (Radio Personalities to Hold 'Fire Dreier' (R-CA) Rally) three links to government documents that contained details about the Totalization Agreement so that so that you could educate yourself about the details contained in the agreement and why it's an abomination to honest taxpaying American citizens.
Since you've posted the above comment, it is clear that you did not avail yourself of this opportunity to become more informed about the issues facing us this election.
This does not surprise me. Most of your fellow Bush supporters prefer to remain ignorant about what your president is really doing.

This is the question that Republicans are afraid, yes afraid to ask out loud because they are terrified of the answer.
Too many times the answer would come back, "Not a damn thing!"
What good is a socialist Republican to the US of A? Why do we keep re-electing them?
FWIW, these two talk show hosts don't pitch Republicanism. At the moment they're local-issue advocates.
The two main issues they hammer are Illegal Immigration and Traffic.
You might also be interested to know they are going to do a rally against Joe Baca - D as well.
This duo was a key part of the recall Davis effort as well.
You may disagree with their attack on Dreier, and I am on record disagreeing with it -- but you should also note that according to the congress/senate rankings by an anti-Illegal Immigration lobbying group, he has the LOWEST rating of all Republicans on this issue.
Now that he's advocating for a Biometric National ID card, I don't know what to say...ick.
Are you voting for President Bush or against Kerry? For too many years we have voted against the opponent not for someone.
And our grandchildren will curse us, because they will pay for this mess for the rest of their lives.
I'm in Dreier's district ... in fact, I have had big signs for him in my yard. This immigration stuff and caving in to party bosses and their interests has turned me against him. I'll gladly vote him out in this election, and in two years turn around and support someone who supports my way of thinking in the Republican primary. I really don't give a rats *** anymore about his rules committee position if he's not listening to us, the voters. We'll find someone who will. Too bad Sardo was so inexperienced (he ran in this past primary). If we can get a strong conservative with the right position on immigration, he'll give Dreier (and then, the dem incumbent) a real good run for their money. Dreier's complacent. Not a good thing for us.
This will be George W. Bush's legacy and I for one, will not let anyone forget it.
What arrogance! This isn't about the GOP! Gezzz. This about our borders and our sovereignty! This is what the whole freaking problem is...Party before country...This crap never ends!
Politics is about patronage. You will be demanding a certain set of actions from people you've just made upset at you. That's never a good strategy.
So, after your rant above, the GOP says, "Well, why don't you go talk to the Democrat you just elected? Maybe they'll do something for you."
What are you going to do then?
GD policital party arrogence!
We have to ask them to secure our borders and sovereignty? We have to tell them we are being choked off! We have to ask them for favors?? BULL S*&# !
Yeah, you have to ask them for anything and everything that you want them to do. That is the nature of politics.
BS!
Tango Sierra. Politics is a contact sport. If you're not willing to get banged up, you're not going to get what you want. Period. Saying "BS!" merely makes you a crybaby.
What arrogance!
We have to ask them to secure our borders and sovereignty? We have to tell them we are being choked off! We have to ask them for favors?? BULL S*&# !
Yeah, you have to ask them for anything and everything that you want them to do. That is the nature of politics.
We have asked! This is BS!
We've screamed, petitioned, wrote them, voted, (prop 187) our hospitals are being closed down, over crowded classroom are being jammed to the windows with illegal aliens, they've filled our jails, choked off our social services and left the landscaped filled with American victims of their crimes, not to mention the hundreds of thosands of jobs they've stolen.
NOW YOU SAY WE HAVE TO ASK THE GOP TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY, ASK THEM TO SECURE OUR BORDERS, ASK THEM TO PROTECT OUR SOVEREIGNTY?
This is beyond pathetic. Dealing with you people is like dealing with the Department of Motor vehicles. All arrogant government employees with fat salaries, and fat pensions waiting for us peons to beg them. LOL!
You're living in the past, Mr. P. They don't listen anymore, they're too busy arranging their OWN agenda, despite what their constituents think.
Dreier is one of the best informed and enlightened House members on supply side tax cuts and economic issues. He does a lot for us daily in designing rules that expedite particular pieces of legislation through the House. And he was very important in getting Davis recalled and Arnold elected as our new Governor. Can you (anyone) name someone else (from California) who has done more for us lately?
You've asked...and then you asked again...and then you've asked again. One thing that you haven't done: y'all haven't actually made it worth the GOP's while to give you what you want. You didn't bother showing up for the 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002 elections, and each time, a Democrat-majority delegation went to Washington from this state. In short, the GOP concluded that you don't vote, and that you don't really care enough about your issue to do any useful work, anyway.
We've screamed, petitioned, wrote them, voted, (prop 187)
Kindly note that 187 was overturned by a judge appointed by the Democrats. That didn't stop California from returning a Democrat-majority delegation to Congress in 1994--and in 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002.
Believe it or not, politicians pay attention to one thing, and one thing only: votes.
Since then, you've done NOTHING to make it worth the GOP's while to go to bat for you. You've made it clear that your group has never solidly supported the GOP, that you are willing to try to get Democrats elected if you don't get every single thing you scream for, that you're not willing to back up your words with real, honest-to-God votes if you DO get what you're demanding, and you're asking for a LOT of favors. The GOP is going to decide that you're not worth the risk--i.e., that making you happy will not generate a net gain in votes. Hell, they will note that you're trying to elect Democrats who vigorously oppose everything you support--and they will decide that, at some level, you're just too crazy to bother keeping happy.
Politics is "pay for play." If you want things done, you have to (a) have politicians indebted to you, and (b) you have to ask for what you want.
NOW YOU SAY WE HAVE TO ASK THE GOP TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY, ASK THEM TO SECURE OUR BORDERS, ASK THEM TO PROTECT OUR SOVEREIGNTY?
Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying.
You have to ask them to close off 12,000 miles of American frontier, AND take the inevitable political heat that will follow. To get that, you have to demonstrate that it is indeed worth their while. That's the way ANYTHING in life is--if you want a lot, you'd better show that the guy you're asking it of will gain a lot by helping you.
Try standing on the other side of the table. Suppose you had someone show up at your business. The most noteworthy thing you remember him doing is making sure that you lost a previously safe contract and making sure the local Mafia front company got the job. He's asking you to do some work for him at a significant discount from your regular prices.
How fast would you tell him to have an improper relationship with himself?
