Just got here and I've looked through the thread a bit so perhaps I missed this.

Yes, it was terrible for the Kerry supporter to rip the little girl's sign.

My question: What was the father thinking? He's taking a 3 year old child to an opposing party campaign event? I find that completely irresponsible.

He was thinking this is a free country where the rights of free expression are recognized and respected by all. Unfortunately he was doing so amidst Kerry/Edwards supporters who believe the 1st amendment is theirs' alone.

Moral equivalence: If you think Republicans do the same thing, why are you here? (as if I don't know)

This wasn't a real event. Edwards was there ONLY to get on his plane. The campaign said if he had a few minutes to spare he might stop and shake some hands, so people were welcome to go to the airport and take their chances.

On one hand I agree. On the other, I think it's pathetic that you CAN'T take your children to things of this nature. Some venues are just not meant for children, period, but some things- such as outdoor rallies and public events- should be open for children at times. The fact that the Kerry supporters are so insecure in their position that they have to torment children really gets me fired up.

Because this man grew up in a country where we could argue civilly over politics. I remember heartfelt but good-natured banter with fellow 5th graders whose families supported Nixon in 1960. Of course I recited the talking points for Jack Kennedy that I had learned from my family. That was long ago in a universe far-away, before Dealey Plaza, and Memphis, and Chicago '68, and before the Democratic Party was hijacked by hard-core Marxists.

I can understand that. But everyone should feel safe protesting, and not have to worry about thugs getting physical.

Why?

My husband and I have been taking our daughter to political functions/events, etc since she was 4 months old.

NO!

This is STILL AMERICA, darn it! We SHOULD BE ABLE to take our kids to political rallies!!! My anger's not at YOU, my anger's .... well, it's in a lot of places.

I've emailed this to a LOT of people tonight. Along with the link. I voted. These scum. Imagine what they're going to be like AFTER their party loses this November? Good grief.
