I think Rather was set up, too. Posted that a long time ago. If so, it does not excuse the negligence of not checking for validity. Rather was too eager, probably. Nor does it excuse his silence now. But something isn't ringing true here. Also (this may have been asked already), do we know for sure what Burkett had copied at Kinko's?

Rather knew what he was doing. Prior to showing it, 2 out of his 3 document experts said that they couldn't authenticate the document, and the 3rd one (Matley) said that he could only authenticate the signature in 1 document.
It was a hit piece based on knowingly forged documents.
