Did you ask her what he did there? Does he use the computers and word processing software?

No need to ask. Burkett is a retired systems analyst from the Army National Guard. Remember that the secretary Rather interviewed tonight said she knew the documents weren't ones she'd typed because they used Army abbreviations rather than Air Guard abbreviations? Nice of her to point that out on the record. :o)

That explains it completely. He punched them out himself. Good catch.

I remember that, she mentioned the use of the word "billets" in one of the memos which she said was an Army word not AF which would be "slots".

CBS just isn't having a good period right now. Their kindly elderly source just gave extra credence towards Burkett being involved.

I'm reading some of his ramblings and this is a guy 60 minutes put up as a star witness?

Good catch. It's looking like Burkett is the forger, and I believe the "unimpeachable source" is Mapes. She was sent down to interview Burkett. She talked with him. He conned her. Probably showed her the original documents and gave her copies of them, which she then faxed to the home office. Mapes was played for a fool and probably told Rather, "Trust me, this is the real thing--go with this story."

Although it would be nice to connect the DNC or the Kerry Campaign to this, I honestly don't think they would be that stupid. They might have been aware of the documents, but don't think they were in the loop. But I may be pleasantly surprised.
