The short answer to your excellent questions is that, in some ways, the laws that would cover a case like this in the U.S. are much less just that the onese in the U.K. For all practical purposes, there are no effective libel laws that protect "public" persons, and the average individual has no idea how easy it is to become a "public" person under the relevant laws. As for forgery and fraud, maybe one of the FR legal beagles can give us some info.
Thanks for the post. I really resent it when a reporter shows his bias with such arrogance! It seems the media has this attitude that we are incapable of sorting through things on our own. They seem to think we need them to tell us what we just saw! What an insult! Especially since they get it wrong so often! :)
