and that Bill is committing Har Kari

Which brings me to another point. Why does everyone refer to committing Harry Carey?

AFAIK, Hara-kiri is pronounced just the way it looks - har-uh-KEE-ree. AiT, might you be able to confirm?

ha (as in the "a" in "awesome")--ra (as if saying "raw" but without a "w") -- ki (as in "kiss" without the "ss") -- ri (as the "re" in "reasonable"(

Most Americans do a horrendous job to Japanese words.

God Bless them, but, American GI -tainted Japanese language is usually the worst, and grates on the ears the most, making one cringe. One person misprounced a word, and passed that down the line, it then being increasingly mispronounced by four more generations of Americans stationed in Japan.

That is how Yokosuka can become "Yuhkoosky", Yokota can become "Yakowdah", arigato as "airighetto"...you name it.
