What was that thingie we slapped back for each line?

LOL Forgot about those things & I have a manual typewriter. Manual typewriters were the ancient equivalent of laptops. (Circa 1977--graduation present.)

My grandfather had this classic old model typewriter, which he used for YEARS to do his accounting, business correspondence, etc. I think he used it up until he and my grandmother "retired" from running their ma and pa motel at the age of 91, back in the mid 1990's. That typewriter worked like a charm all those decades. I loved typing on it when I was a kid.
