Yes, but if you have someone that has access to the originals that is willing to 'doctor' them, or replace them entirely, then a candidate, or anyone, who KNOWS the truth, would no longer have the paper proof to defend themselves.

The Bergergate speculation was that he 'may' have taken documents, changed them, and then returned them to the national archive. Now, I realize that the Bush docs are (may) be held in a different location, but it certainly is obvious that the Dems gained access to archival records to DO SOMETHING. Take down the President, overthrow the government, cripple the US intelligence, defraud the 9/11 Commission... perhaps by this promote policy contrary to that which is best for America. (Which may be why the Pres. is holding back on some 9/11 reccommendations pending further review)

Furthermore, I still don't understand how PERSONAL 3rd party files, just popped up out of nowhere, and are even considered from the beginning as a viable credible source.

Everyone sees the obvious, there is collusion at the highest levels between the DNC, the Kerry camp, and the media. Whoever the candidate was going to be, it is now clear that using CFR, the DNC planned to use the media as their freebie activist wing, and run with the really nasty slams with 527 money.

Paranoia time: What if this announcement if far, far from what we want? What if it is bad news?

Reassurance needed.

Exactly! They are trapped. They felt that if they just put up the text from the original documents, everybody would (rightly) ask to see the originals. They don't want people to see the originals because they probably lead to somebody CBS doesn't want us to know is involved. So CBS had their graphics department create the "forgeries" in the hopes that they would be good enough to negate the calls to see the originals. Never even thinking that people would question their authenticity, because in their mind, they are not forgeries, they are graphical representations of the truth. This why they are not backing down. The funny thing is, it doesn't matter if they do produce the originals, this has damaged their credibility. If what I think is true, they are going to crazy over the next few weeks when their cries for Bush to answer the questions are ignored, and Bush still leads in the polls.

I know where you're coming from. I keep getting this recurring feeling that this is all one big setup. I don't know why. Maybe it's just I'm still finding it hard to believe that SeeBS is that stupid. But, then again, I would have never thought Sandy "Hamburglar" Berger would have been that stupid either. Most of the MSM now seem to be all over this and, surprisingly, sticking it to Rather and SeeBS. If there is one thing the MSM hates more than Republicans it's the competition. No one outside of Black Rock seems to think these "documents" are authentic. So, keep your head up!

I have a memo right in front of me that says Dan Rather molested a baby goat last year. Mind you, I wrote it myself, but it's the seriousness of the charge that counts, and Dan should address this right away.

They way CBS is playing this out, seems to have been the plan to use this to demand a public outcry for President Bush to respond. Remove the "heat" of JFKerry not signing that 180 and releasing his records.

What heat? Kerry hasn't gotten ANY heat for not signing the form to release his records. It's only us little people who have clamored that he do so, not any media source.

I do not suspect any RNC complicity, especially after their statement yesterday. I know how the DNCBS operates and the anticipation of the next move is not doing much for my anxiety level.

Oh well, nothing to do but wait and deal with what whatever spin they take.

"CBS News Release:

- After an exhaustive internal investigation, we have determined that the memos in question were in fact prepared on a computer using Microsoft Word. However, one of our research staff did so from originals which our experts tell us had been typed on a 1969 IBM Selectric.
You see, our researcher was so concerned that someone might be able to trace the name of our source if they could match the original typewriter font to a name, that he transcribed the documents to protect the identity of our secret informant. Unfortunately, our researcher neglected to tell Mr.Rather of his actions and has just returned from vacation, with the original documents, in time to straighten out this confusion.
CBS regrets any inconvenience that this small misunderstanding might have caused and, of course, continues to stand by it's statement."

Was this the statement that we were waiting for or a guess of what they might?

If it is the statement it, I was under the impression that these memos were offered to several news agencies and CBS was the only one to jump on them. If that is true than saying that "Some one at CBS retyped the memos" is a huge lie because the other news organizations that saw the thought they were suspicious and therefore faulty before the CBS supposed rewrite. If we can show proof that any other news org. passed on the memos before CBS ran with it, it would totally debunk this statement they made.

The hypocrites at CBS didn't have the "seriousness of the charge" as their standard when the person's name was Juannita Broderick.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head?? It will be interesting to see if you're right.

But, the smart money is betting that it will be some sort of BS tapdance and shuffle.

I've been leery of this story for the past couple of days. Despite the undeniable snobbery of the MSM, I cannot believe that CBS continues to support obvious forgeries. Now that this old secretary has come along, and, while rambling from one story to another has alleged she did type memos "like" the ones presented.

I guess I'm worried that the originals are there, and CBS has essentially fallen on their sword to get the interest up before releasing the real memos.

Yes, I realize that this is beyond paranoid, but it is the only way I can reconcile CBS's almost insanely stupid behavior.

The big problem with the re-typing scenario is that some of the documents had signatures and/or initials, and in CBS's case, words underlined or blacked out (they sexed the documents up with those markings - big mistake). No re-typing excuse will fly.

I agree, they still forged official US documents. That is against the law no matter why you did it. Besides D. Rather was never smart enough to trick Bush, or even his dog.
