D*mn.

I thought he was suspicious, but didn't realize I could have checked him out yesterday!

OK - We have evidence that AP is lying.

What are the chances that he "converted" (to the Muslim religion most likely) and "was a SEAL for 5 years in Vietnam" - but under a different name?

Of course, after five years as Seal in Vietnam (hmmmmn - 67 + 68 + 69 + 70 + 71) --Didn't the guy ever take leave?)I'd actually expect him to have aged enough that he'd be dead by now.

Oops. Thought it was Albany, New York he was from, not Albany, Georgia. No problem though. He has probably been a resident of that state's prison system at some point in time.

This only took a couple of minutes time for "amateurs" on Free Republic to check out. The "professional" journalists at the AP must have been to busy to do this basic checking.

One would think the "professionals" . . . see prostitutes and knee-pad replacement companies for more info . . . would finally "get it" that we're not taking their BS any more.

Way to go, Travis. Keep the bastards honest.

The guy has his phone number listed. I'm not a SEAL and so don't have standing to call but I'm sure the guys who authenticate SEAL team members would have no problem calling and asking about his bona fides.

I think we’re overreacting here people, perhaps getting suckered into a screen pass.

There’s some indication that he’s a Navy Seal right here :

Well to be fair to AP, they just interviewed a guy on the street sort of thing. One normally doesn't check out the veracity of that sort of person's claims about his CV. Still, the more arteries of the MSM that are cut the merrier.

Even if the guy had changed his name after serving with the SEALs, wouldn't it have been in the AP's best interest to disclose that information? These shoddy reporting jobs are beginning to anger me. Rawr.

Cassius Clay changed both first and last names when he converted, as did the older of the two snipers who were terrifying the highways in Virginia, et al. Is there any way to check?

Find out whether ANY member could be in Vietnam for 5 years, and NOT get rotated to CONUS for as an instructor for training duty or other assignment.

I agree about being careful; however, if he had changed his name, his records, since he says he "retired" after 30 years, there would be a complete record of all changed throughout his career verifying his eligibility as "retired" and for benefits.

Believe me, if he's so proud that he's a retired SEAL, he'd make sure that everything was in order because all SEALs know of the Wall of Shame.

In all the Vietnam years, there were only 200 SEALs that served in Vietnam. Pretty easy to check out if the AP had tried.
