I am impressed with the analysis. Keep up the good work as it WILL discredit the RATher "copies". However, the lefties are coming to the defense of RATher, CBS (Communist BS) etc. They do a reverse analysis of the analysis. What every one fails to centralize on, and this is not to knock what I see as an objective analysis here, are: 1. You cannot authenticate an original from a copy (You can discredit the original though IMHO) 2. Chain of Custody. Seems both items are missing in RATher's "story".

Added notes:. The lefties are here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/9/10/34914/1603

An exception to not authenticating an original from a copy applies to electronic copies (computer files) provided there is a chain of custody. Then the electronic copy is the same as the original.

Look particularly at the word "interference", at the beginning of the second line. It contains four 'e's. Two are at the baseline; two are raised slightly above the baseline. It is inconsistent, even on the same line, within the same word.

This isn't an artifact of a fax, or a copy distortion; if that were true, all 'e' elements would be equally misplaced. These character drifts must necessarily exist in the original document. Similar drifts exist throughout, and for other letters.

I wanted to say a word about the lefties' assertion that character drifts are indications of a typewriter. I just got rid of an Epson inkjet because it did exactly the same thing -- couldn't get any lines straight not within a word or without. So a slippery carriage does not a typewriter make. That's all. Thanks for a great analysis all.

I realize one cannot defame or libel a dead man (Killian) but does his family have any legal recourse to the fraudulent, malicious, injurious attack they have sustained in the publication of the forged documents? If there ever was such a thing as "pain and suffering", this IS IT! I think of what I'd be doing if my dad (bless his soul) was suddenly presented nationally and posthumously as an admirer of Castro, or Kerry, or Kennedy. One sees the obvious team of lawyers behind Rather. A dead man's records. No originals. Undisclosed source. Freedom of the press shouldn't apply to such open, outright lies as CBS. They should lose their license. Rather needs to be certified insane.
