Thank you for looking for that url. The only ones that I can find now will not allow you to input any information into them. I found the one that I was thinking of but it has been changed and just shows you a generic location.

To me it sounds like "crunch time" -- down to the wire -- this must be the time frame they really worry about before the election.

Just my guess.

U.S. ARMY AIRSHIP MISSIONS OVER THE WASHINGTON DC METRO AREA, MARYLAND AND NORTHERN VIRGINIA

September 22, 2004

An A-170 Lightship, such as the one pictured above, will be flying above the Washington D.C. area until Oct. 2.

The U.S. Army plans to conduct mission flights of a leased commercial airship over the Washington, D.C. metro area, Maryland and Northern Virginia starting today and continuing through Oct. 2. The 178-foot-long, A-170 Lightship™ will be used in proof-of-concept mission flights for the Rapid Aerostat Initial Deployment (RAID) sensor equipment that is currently providing force protection to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The A-170 will be operating with a complex passive mission system designed for force protection. The RAID system is a currently-deployed persistent surveillance system consisting of electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) cameras mounted on towers and tethered aerostats and controlled from an operations center.Ci

The airship will travel to Freeway Airport, near Bowie, Md., today and will be utilized for miscellaneous mission flights over Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., the Chesapeake Bay and Tipton Airfield, Md., in addition to its flights over Washington, D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia.

During its stay in the Washington D.C. area, the airship will make at least one 24+-hour flight proving its long endurance capability while performing a force protection/infrastructure protection mission for the Department of Defense.

The A-170 airship is multi-mission capable in scope, and is
supporting the RAID system initiatives to use airships for force protection. It will also be supporting the U.S. Coast Guard's Automatic Identification System (AIS ship tracking system) initiatives to use airships in ocean surveillance. There will be no additional instrumentation in the A-170 other than that associated with the RAID and no weaponry will be involved.

The ability of these new airships to provide real time images and other forms of intelligence to ground commanders would increase troop force protection capability, as well as add airborne surveillance capacity for such potential missions as pipeline patrol and improvised explosive device (IED) detection or prevention.

American Blimp Corporation (ABC) manufactures the A-170 Lightship™. It is designed for missions requiring large payloads, and/or extended duration flights.

STATEMENT OF MARK CORALLO, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS,
REGARDING YASER HAMDI

"The United States and enemy combatant Yaser Esam Hamdi and his counsel have signed an agreement that allows Hamdi to be released from United States custody and transferred to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he is a citizen. The agreement requires Hamdi, once he arrives in Saudi Arabia, to renounce any claim he has to U.S. citizenship and to abide by strict travel restrictions.

"Mr. Hamdi was taken into the custody of U.S. armed forces after he surrendered as part of a Taliban military unit. Like many other enemy combatants captured and detained by U.S. armed forces in Afghanistan who have been subsequently released, the United States has determined that Mr. Hamdi could be transferred out of United States custody subject to strict conditions that ensure the interests of the United States and our national security. As we have repeatedly stated, the United States has no interest in detaining enemy combatants beyond the point that they pose a threat to the U.S. and our allies.

"Mr. Hamdi's transfer is currently being arranged."

Obviously, if a thermonuclear bomb exploded close to your home, you'd have little hope of surviving the blast. But what if one exploded 5 miles away, or 20 miles away? And what about radioactive fallout?

To find out, see -

This is from "Captain Dave's" Survival Site:
The world is probably closer to the use of nuclear arms in an aggressive manner today than it has been since the Cuban Missile Crisis. There’s the possibility of a terrorist attack with nuclear weapons, the possibility that Iran has nuclear weapons, North Korea's growing nuclear arsenal and the sorry state of security for old Soviet Union weapons.

So let’s say the worst happens and you hear on the radio that a nuclear device has exploded somewhere in the world. Here are Captain Dave’s suggestions for what to do:

Don’t Panic.

Those of us who grew up during the cold war have a grave fear of nuclear war and many are likely to assume that because one or more nuclear warheads or device has exploded, the world as we know it will end.

This could result in all sorts of panic, especially since it will take some time for real facts and figures to be known. (We’ll cover the effects of panic more extensively below.)

So your first step is to separate yourself from the masses by not panicking. Take a deep breath and remember that if you are not in the blast radius or down wind from it, you are in no immediate danger form the blast. So calm down and don’t do anything foolish.

Instead of acting out of panic, take a few minutes to make a plan or to activate an existing plan (which we can help you develop). Remember, just because those around you are losing their heads does not mean you need to do so also.

Keep Informed.

Turn on the news and try to learn as much as you can about the attack as well as local events. This will affect how your plan. Later, you will need to monitor reports of fallout (see below.) The location, number and size of the detonations are important, as are the wind currents and weather patterns. How people around the world and around your neighborhood react is also something you should monitor, as it will effect your immediate well being more than the actual explosions will.

Gather Your Family.
During any period of unrest, it’s best to have your immediate family around you. People who are traveling should return home on the first available flight or should rent cars and drive home if flights are booked or grounded. Everyone will perform better knowing that their loved ones are safe.

If your kids are in school or day care, there is probably no reason to get them immediately. They should return home safely through regular means, such as the school bus or carpool.

Remember Rule One (don’t panic) and do nothing to panic your children. This will be a stressful time for everyone, and getting young children panicky or upset will not help the situation. You will have to decided whether or not to send them back to school the following days based on your plan and what you have learned from Step 2. If your children are at an away camp or boarding school, you will have to determine if they are possibly safer there than at your residence.

Cancel extracurricular activities and plans outside the home until you can be sure (by monitoring the news) that the situation is stabilized and there is no danger or unrest locally.

Lock Your Doors.

Once you have all gathered at home, lock your doors and secure your perimeter as best as possible. Then try to go about life as you normally would. Have a good dinner and play a game with the kids. Watch a video. Try to seek normalcy and be reassuring so that the kids can sleep well. Don’t bombard them or yourself with repeated images of death and destruction on TV, as this is not healthy. Don’t do anything dangerous or risky as police, fire and ambulance services may be responding to other emergencies.

But remember, unless civil unrest develops as a result of panic, a nuclear detonation in the Middle East or Asia will cause no immediate danger to people in North America.

A detonation in the U.S. could have much more serious effects, but this really depends on the target and your location. The closed you are to the blast radius, the more immediate the danger.

Now, you may think it is foolish to watch TV and take it easy, but if you have planned and prepared and have ample supplies of food and survival gods, there is no reason to act otherwise. If you have not prepared, then going out to buy up supplies at the last minute will only add to the panic and endanger you. So take advantage of what may be your last day of calm and family togetherness.

Understand What Panic May Do. If a large number of people learn of the nuclear exchange at the same time several things may be expected to happen at once:

Telephone lines will be clogged as people immediately call loved ones and decide what to do. The Internet will also grow much busier, especially news sites, as people at work look for breaking information.

The stock market will crash until trading is suspended. And even when trading resumes, prices will continue to fall. A nuclear exchange will create tremendous economic disruption, and this will be reflected in the markets. Have some money available if the ATMs are empty and the credit card machines go down, and have some liquid wealth outside the market.

Major roads will be jammed as people leave work and return home, creating a super rush hour. Other people will leave their homes for "safer" locations, such as friends in the country, vacation homes or even campgrounds. Clogged highways will be especially bad in cities and in areas with a limited numbers of bridges and tunnels, such as New York and Washington, D.C. This is a situation where civil violence could break out.

There may be lines or delays at gas stations as everyone decides to fill their tanks before it is "too late." Some stations could run out of gas. Others may rise prices or ask for cash only. This is another situation where civil violence could break out.

People will shop for food and supplies, causing lines and shortages of everything from bread and milk to bottled waterbatteries and toilet paper.

Most grocery stores rotate their stock so quickly they have only a two to three day supply of key items in stock. Thanks to just-in-time production and distribution methods, if everyone panics and shops at one time, we could well see empty shelves very quickly.

There may be civil unrest as people panic, especially if there are shortages at the grocery store. If local police forces are overwhelmed, this could escalate to riots and looting, especially in densely populated urban areas.

Riots and civil unrest could cause general lawlessness, as law enforcement is overwhelmed and unable to respond to calls. Depending on where you live, you could be in danger form fires (arson), or you could be targeted for home invasion robberies and other acts of violence. You could also get caught up in a riot or random acts of violence. Again, proper planning for this possibility will help you be prepared. Remember that the Korean merchants in South Central demonstrated the value of firearm ownership in this type of situation.

Having a plan can save you from getting caught up in the worst panic. Know where to go and what to do once you are there.

Once all family members are at home and you know whether or not there is local civil unrest, you can plan for the next few days or, better yet, implement your existing plan. Your key concerns will be protecting yourself and your loved ones from possible radiation dangers, making sure you are safe from local unrest and ensuring that you have enough supplies to live through the next few weeks or even months.

Go on to part 2, Protecting Yourself from Fallout

Perhaps so. I haven't read the Fox article though.

Things get garbled when they pass from one news source to another, so it's hard to tell what is really meant.

Update

Feds Concerned U.S. Terror Attack in Works
Friday, September 24, 2004

WASHINGTON — Federal officials are increasingly concerned that a terrorist attack is being planned for the weeks prior to the Nov. 2 presidential election.

"Every day there is new information that raises the level of anxiety," said one law enforcement official who declined to be identified. The concern, based on intelligence reporting of multiple sources, is that the plots or plot may be in the final stages of planning — and ready to be executed at any time, the official said.

On Sept. 13, Attorney General John Ashcroft (search) held a conference call with U.S. attorneys throughout the nation, according to senior federal law enforcement officials.

During that call, Ashcroft warned them of the possibility of a major terror attack on U.S. soil in upcoming weeks. Law enforcement throughout the country were to be made aware of this concern.

Law enforcement officials are drastically increasing their efforts to track down potential terrorists, and have been ordered to press their sources and conduct interviews with anyone who may be potentially connected to terrorism.

"We're asking law enforcement officers to vigorously find any legitimate reason to arrest people we believe could be involved in terrorist activity, such as go after them for visa violations and deport them," one official said, who described the overall effort as one of "shaking the trees."

Senior officials said they "absolutely believe" someone will attempt a terror attack inside the United States within the next four to six weeks. One official described this time "as a very, very serious period."

"I have not seen people in our intelligence communities this nervous since 9/11," one official said, referring to the Sept. 11, 2001 (search), attacks on the United States that killed almost 3,000 people.

Officials said they believe they "disrupted" at least one major plot by some recent arrests, but fear they may not have "derailed" this plot and possibly two others.

"We will need some luck and the grace of God to prevent this one," one official said, explaining that again they have no specifics as to the exact time and place or clear method. They have some intelligence suggesting a truck bomb or some type of bomb may be used.

U.S. officials said they are getting intelligence from a variety of sources, including some people who've been arrested but are now talking. The information will lead to some visible activity in the next 10 days to two weeks, such as a rounding up of individuals who may be tied to terrorism

Here's an article by Daniel Pipes that I missed yesterday. Daniel Pipes, like Steven Emerson, and others, is someone I always pay attention to. I just wish more of our govt leaders would listen. (Excerpts below, but worth reading in total at the link.)

The Islamic States of America?

The hardest thing for Westerners to understand is not that a war with militant Islam is underway but that the nature of the enemy’s ultimate goal [sic]. That goal is to apply the Islamic law (the Shari‘a) globally. In U.S. terms, it intends to replace the Constitution with the Qur’an...

The Muslim population in this country is not like any other group, for it includes within it a substantial body of people—many times more numerous than the agents of Osama bin Ladin—who share with the suicide hijackers a hatred of the United States and the desire, ultimately, to transform it into a nation living under the strictures of militant Islam.

The receptivity indeed was greater, but still the idea of an Islamist takeover remains unrecognized in establishment circles – the U.S. government, the old media, the universities, the mainline churches.

Therefore, reading “A rare look at secretive Brotherhood in America,” in the Chicago Tribune on Sept. 19 caused me to startle. It’s a long analysis that draws on an exclusive interview with Ahmed Elkadi, the Muslim Brotherhood leader in the United States during 1984-94, plus other interviews and documentation. In it, the authors (Noreen S. Ahmed-Ullah, Sam Roe, and Laurie Cohen) warily but emphatically acknowledge the Islamists’ goal of turning the United States into an Islamic state...

This Brotherhood approach is in keeping with my observation that the greater Islamist threat to the West is not violence – flattening buildings, bombing railroad stations and nightclubs, seizing theaters and schools – but the peaceful, legal growth of power through education, the law, the media, and the political system...

Even if the Muslim Brotherhood is not specifically associated with violence in the United States (as it has been in other countries, including Egypt and Syria), it is deeply hostile to the United States and must be treated as one vital component of the enemy’s assault force.

UPDATE OF CLEVELAND SKIES

New information for you, a caller that wished not to me identified (Friday) spoke to the Cleveland radio (1100AM-WTAM) station (off the air) with the following information; the traffic control center in Oberlin has two departments of controllers, one for civil/commercial flights and one for military flights, the traffic controllers for the military flights have been replaced by flight controllers from the Department of Homeland Security.

Oberlin flight control was told one or two weeks ago that the military flights were going to be manned by Homeland security personnel.

Over and over and over the Muslims primary goal is to inflict themselves into our politics, legal system and communities. Their growth has already taken root and like the spreading gene-modified grass problem, it flourishes and represents a challange that fills the ACLU's agenda for the next centry (if we last that long). Should we be attacked again, our only chance to alter their plans will be at that time and they better pray another attack never happens. American sentiment was great last attack. There are many rednecks and patriots who will NOT accept them killing us on our own turf once again and then them expecting us to accept them. Ain't gonna happen. They better be rethinking their role in our society if they shelter, condone or patronize with those who would harm us. We have laws concerning traitors and they need to be implemented.
