No it is far from impossible. Retirees can still hold a little clout. Is it likely? That's a toss up.

Is it absolutely impossible that a retired commander might apply pressure to Killian on behalf of a third party? Nothing's impossible. Not being a military man myself, I'm not sure what kind of "pressure" a guy who's no longer in the chain of command could apply.
