On the Selectric.org site the operator was saying he couldn't find a ball with a "th" symbol on it.
Also, being a typewriter, I don't think whatever symbol is being printed can extend very much above the top of line due to the mechanics of a typewriter. The superscript on the documents in question are significantly higher than the top of line. Without rolling the paper down half a line I don't think you can do it. And what typist would do that?
On a computer, that's standard output.

The symbols included the th. If you look closely you can see the th doesn't go any higher than the " sign or the ' or the ^.
