"But when the Russian Foreign Minister later spoke in Israel about global terror, he differentiated between Palestinian terror against Israel, and Chechen terror against Russia."

uh oh, my sympathy is rapidly slipping awayLet's wait and see. Maybe the Russian State Department isn't any more patriotic or under control than our State Department, which seems to go its Arabist way no matter what happens in the world or who is the President.

Hmmmmmmaybe. This guy sure seems to have taken a French pill before making these statements.

If this is true, the Russian missed really good opportunity to buy a clue.

"any counter-terror alliance would have to include Arab countries, Russia's traditional allies in the region."

That's right, while the Russian Foreign Minister spoke of the need for a global counter-terror alliance, he warned against seeing a similarity between the fight against international terror; drawing a line, saying, there is a clear difference between the Chechen conflict and what is between Israel and the Palestinians. Assertions like this are totally useless. I just wish the foreign minister had been specific about what those "clear differences" might be. The only differences I see accrue to the benefit of Israel being more entitled to harsh retribution.

"Lavrov said the international community considers the West Bank and Gaza as occupied territory,..."
Don't go there, Lavrov, this American considers it all as Israel.

Schmuck. This is the ideal opportunity for Russia to escape from supporting the "allies" of the old Soviet Union - the Syrias, Irans and terror groups of the world - and to formally and decisively join the free and capitalistic world. The benefits would have been enormous, in terms of both security and economics. But did they do it, did they do what was not only right in a moral sense but highly advantageous for themselves? Nope. They've apparently got some Russian language version of the brain-addled State Dept. over there, complete with an appeasing jackass in the top slot.
One can only hope that this is all a ruse (get it, a ruse from by the Ruessians?) to keep the Islamofascists from paying attention until it is too late. If not...expect more of the same, Russkies.

If this is true, the Russian missed really good opportunity to buy a clue.Yeah. He's at least the same class of jerk as the EU (Dutch) minister who demanded an explanation from the Russians of how the Beslan disaster could occur. At worst, of course, its selfish Russian policy, and they aren't clued in yet.
Our state department isn't with the program either--they've recently either held talks with Chechen separatists or chided the Russians about negotiating with them, as reported here on FR.
To: Pearls Before Swine
yea, what is it with these state department types? Yikes.

Russia planned to change its foreign policies regarding Syria, Iran and Saudi Arabia in view of seeming Arab participation in the recent terrorist attack
This doesn't sound right, Russia has been complaining about Saudi Arabia forever. The real question is this: Does Israel consider Wahhabism to be the enemy? Who is the enemy, Wahhabism or the Palestinians? The acid test. This war is about ideas, just as the war against the Nazis was. I haven't heard any Western or Israeli politician talk about it.
