I have observed that the minimum wage is part of the reason for some of the distortions we face. People cannot remember when we did not have a minimum wage law and it is reflected in their attutude about their lives and about government. Many/most think it is a normal function of government. And, they could not conceive of living in a free and open society without it.You could also substitute, FED INC TAX,SOC SEC TAX,MEDICARE TAX,for minimum wage and this paragraph would be as accurate.

The Federal minimum wage has an inherent flaw in it. The cost of living in Elizabethtown, KY is nowhere near that of San Francisco, CA.
But it is big city Liberals who push for increasing the minimum wage to the detriment of small towns like E-Town.
But do Libs care? Hell no. The more people Libs push onto the unemployment and welfare rolls, the more they can play savior.
Reducing people to life-long government dependence for the sake of retaining power and prestige is truly sickening.
Away with the federal minimum wage. Let each state establish its own. If it even wants one.

Check out a book titled "Vision of the Annointed" by Thomas Sowell (another great black thinker). He's an accomplished economist and is great with statistics and he points out the result of the law of unintended consequences in relation to social policies. I think that we'd do well to dump minimum wages myself. Welcome to FR by the way!

I will never understand why people want to raise the minimum wage. Don't they know that it is basically a pay cut for anyone not making minimum wage. I earn my money, I do not deserve a pay cut. Further, it does not help anyone. If you raise the minimum wage, we have to pay it. The cost of all good and services goes up almost immediately. These cost are passed on to us. The minimum wage that anyone makes should be only determined by the market.
