Hello All,

I did contact that number and had a nice chat with Ms. Gray. There was not much she could do about the earlier report but she was patient talking with me about how the AP works through its news cycles and changes to stories and that they do attempt to validate what they can. In the end, the on-site reporter has the job of correctly transcribing. All else happens later.

I do want to post a different number as the best contact at the AP: (212) 621-6060. This is their corporate communications department and it's where they handle corrections (via info@ap.org) according to Ms. Grey.

She had her hands full with the hurricane and other current news stories, so I ask for your understanding on her behalf.

Thanks,

ScottM1968

She had her hands full with the hurricane

What? 'Cause the hurricane has a French name, AP is saying how powerful and strong it is?

The cross town Boston Herald is still running with the "crowd booing" reaction:

Clinton will undergo heart bypass surgery

I hope all is well with Bill Clinton... prayers for his speedy recovery.

That said, his wife was beaming today....that's pretty sick.

Updated thread (includes the story RonDog referenced near the end of this one and reveals that the AP Clymer is Tom Hays, and that Knight-Ridder still is using "boos").

Thanks for posting your conversation with Ms. Gray.

FRiends: We need to call this number to demand that AP issue a CORECTION and APOLOGY for the FALSE report.

This is a very serious matter as it tarnishes the character of both President Bush and his supporters at the Rally.

The best contact at the AP (if no answer call back on Tuesday):

CALL: (212) 621-6060.

Also please email: info@ap.org

We must put them ON MOTICE that this type of false reporting will not be tolerated especially during this critical political campaign.

If people applauded, then "Those nasty Republicans applauded--they're glad that Clinton has heart problems!" We've already seen the response to the (false) claim that they booed. If they were silent, then the media would say they were "displaying the callous indifference that Republicans display in their domestic and economic policies."

Ain't that the truth.

Hello All,

I've called the (212) 621-6060 line multiple times and it currently routes to a conference registration message.

I called the editorial department back and had them call the number internally. Unfortunately, they get the correct line.

This appears to be a problem with their internal PBX system which does work for them at 6060 (I know, as I was eventually routed there). (212) 621-6060 is actually the complaint line at the AP, normally answered during the week.

However, I was given an alternate number for the communications department. It is: (212) 621-1720. Unfortunately, this is a forwarded voice mail box that states it hasn't yet been set up properly.

I do believe (212) 621-xxxx is the exchange owned by the AP; however, the only number that works at this time is (212) 621-1500.

So call that one. I do expect to get a call back from the AP as they figure out what is happening.

Thanks,

ScottM1968

Here is what I sent to the Washington Post. The link is copied in there.

Dear Washington Post Ombudsman:

I am writing to you because E.J. Dionne Jr.’s column today “The GOP's dirty Zell-Bomb,” was very insulting. I can think of no other motive than to smear the GOP and President Bush. If that was his intent and the intent of the Washington Post then this letter is mostly a waste of time and your mission was accomplished. However, I guess there is some merit in letting you know that I am on to you and that you did not fool everyone.

Mr. Dionne claims that no Democratic leader has characterized our troops as occupiers instead of liberators. Mr. Dionne and the staff of the Washington Post are extremely well-educated and well-read people so I know you are lying. Do you really feel you have to lie to the public? Are you that desperate to elect Senator Kerry? How low will the Post go and to what extent will you tarnish your supposedly objective Journalistic credentials to accomplish this goal?

Well, just to let you know that I know Mr. Dionne is lying and smearing the President here are a couple of quotes and a link to just one of Democratic Senator Byrd’s recent speeches:
http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0521-10.htm

“What makes me cringe even more is the continued claim that we are "liberators." The facts don't seem to support the label we have so euphemistically attached to ourselves.”

“…it is becoming all too clear that the smiling face of the U.S. as liberator is quickly assuming the scowl of an occupier. The image of the boot on the throat has replaced the beckoning hand of freedom. “

Let this be a warning to the Post and Mr. Dionne. We are on to you. The public is becoming increasingly aware of your biases and tactics. More and more people are turning to the Internet, bloggers, websites and radio to get important and factual information. These new sources are up front and candid about their biases. They are becoming more and more effective because they provide links which allow readers to check things out for themselves.

I am very disappointed with the Washington Post today. I am beginning to turn to the New Media sources for reliable and unvarnished news.
