I never heard of anyone being rushed to the hospital with the diagnosis of quadruple bipass already predetermined.

Perhaps he'd been previously diagnosed as headed for trouble, and this surgery had already been recommended. When the trouble finally hit, there'd be no delay in deciding to immediately proceed with the surgery.
