+ even if he didn't get those LEGAL deferments! His as of then undiscovered heart problems would have made him 4F(unfit for military service) anyway!

I got my first deferment while in High School in '65 as I had turned 18 in Feb. I got 3 more deferments while in college, and had to appear before my draft board to petition for another to finish college (you were allowed 4 deferments only at that time). I was granted the final 5th deferment, and was drafted in '69, but was not inducted until '70. The lottery had started, but I did not get to participate as I was officially drafted prior to it with a special 5th exemption to complete my degree.

OK. Dick Cheney got five deferments.
Once again, Cheney succeeds where Kerry fails.

Hold on...didn't Kerry RUN out of deferrments and that is why he enlisted under pressure.

Bottom Line:
Dick Cheney spent most of his life strengthening the military and our country, supporting our troops and serving as an achieving, positive force in the United States Government.
John Kerry spent his life doing whatever was best for his own interest at the time. Show me one thing that proves this wrong. ONE THING!
The more Kerry opens his mouth, the better off we are. He truly reveals what he is all about.
It is mindboggling that Kerry supporters seem to relish the haze and misdirection that follows this man like a fog rolling in off the ocean.

Ooops small mistake, my bad.
Dick Cheney was married in 1964 and his first daughter was born in 1966 NOT even months after he was married.
My sincerest apologies to the Cheney family.
The following timeline remains true:
Jan 1963 Dick Cheney age 22, having attended a year of college and worked as a lineman for a power company returns to school at a community college ("deferment" ONE)
1963 Transfers to Wyoming U. ("deferment" TWO)
1964 Marries his high school sweetheart. ("deferment" THREE)
1965 Begins Grad school. ("deferment" FOUR)
First US Ground troops sent to Vietnam.
1966 First Daughter born ("deferment" FIVE)
1967 Dick Cheney now a 26 year old married father with a graduate degree is too old to be drafted.
Vietnam draft begins in earnest.

Good grief. The stench of Loser Sweat in Kerryland is overwhelming.
Deferments ? Oh, yeah, Kerry is familar with deferrments, he used them, actively sought them, used all that were available to him and only volunteered when he had no other options. Now, he opposes them.... hum, for/against... for/against. This is beginnning to sound familar.
So, now a legitimate deferral is a "refusal to serve" ? How can that be ? Neither Dick Cheney or George W Bush ever attempted to avoid service. Cheney exercised the same legitimate student deferrals that Kerry employed.
President Bush joined the Air National Guard and became a skilled pilot. By any definition, that is not a "refusal to serve", its military service, especially since units amd personel were called up on a "as needed" basis. Air National Guard service was a legitimate means of meeting and discharging one's military obligation. There were no guarantees. That he was not called up was a matter of fate and timing rather than an active effort to avoid service.

Let's face it, we right-wingers are just too darn slick for those lefties! I have successfully avoided the upcoming draft that the Dems keep claiming is going to happen soon, by ensuring that I was born in the mid-1960s, ensuring that I have less-than 20/20 vision, going to college in the 1980s, and then in the most clever ruse, marrying a </gasp> woman and fathering two children. I must have dozens of deferments built up by now! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to buy some Halliburton stock and then kick some elderly folks out of their homes and eat their food!

Are you talking about the Dick Cheney who has heart problems? Are we talking about the John Kerry who came home beacuse of three wounds that did not result in missing duty?
Think Kerry went to Vietnam then protested because he wanted anything more than a political career?
