Hey guys and gals...It looks as if the EC is going to get this storm. That is evident. Where is the BIG question. If you are making preparations please remember one thing. There are elderly folks out there who may need your help BEFORE the storm approaches. Some of them don't have family nearby. You may be the one to make the difference in whether they survive or not.

One thing I heard this AM. If you used a generator after Charley now is a good time to change the oil. Another tip I have read is that scoopable cat litter in a bucket makes a good toilet in a pinch, if there's no water to be used for flushing. Also have on hand plenty of bug spray. If you plan on staying put, make sure you put on your shoes. As the storm approaches there may be glass broken and you don't want a nasty cut requiring stitches. Also, you can't stress the need to store water. A large clean thick contractor's trash bag will hold up to 55 gallons of water. Fill several of them.

I am just trying to think of the odd things that aren't normally mentioned. Hope it helps someone.

Good observation!!! Generators really become "funky" after 100+ hours of operation on the same oil!!!

I told several of my neighbors to CHANGE THEIR OIL yesterday!

My generator accumulated 110 hours in its first 10 years of life and 165 hours this year (SO FAR)! I'm beginning to wish I had spent an extra grand or so for a heavy duty diesel unit!
