Discussion: Who's the best and worst talking head on TV?(and have you changed your mind recently..)
one man's opinion....

Posted on 08/30/2004 11:15:12 AM PDT by ken5050

It's a slow day, both in the office, and here on FR, and Rush is boring today..Must be jet lag. So, as the political season heats up, the number of talking heads increase, as well as their on-air frequency. I'm wondering, which do you love, and which do you love to hate, and more importantly, have you changed you mind lately...

Note: a talking head is a 'commentator", NOT a campaign spokesman. That disqualifies Max Cleland, Howard Dean, and the newest 90 day wonder. McPeak.

For a long time, I couldn't stand Juan Williams. Dumb as a rock. I was in good company. Brit Hume can't stand him either. Brit's "looks" as Juan speaks are priceless.Them Juan, started making sense, for a while..But lately, he's back to the dark side.. Chris Matthews is unsufferable, and unwatchable, but just when you want to throw the TV set out the window..he occasionally says something intelligent. Not often, and NOT since the GOP convention started. And, he's given Ron Reagan a seat at the table...bad enough in itself..Elinor Clift has become a parody of herself..Nothing new there..

But, there's a new contender for the most oily, repulsive, obnoxious talking head. Hands down..Ellis Hennigan. The "Eddie Haskell" of the chattering class"..He's come from far back to take the lead. The "voice" grates, whines..like chalk on a blackboard. And he yells with a screeching town..ike a middle-aged man who's voice is changing...

On the positive side..lot's of good guys, and girls, but my personal fav is Rich Galen. Good to have him back from Iraq....he's engagaed, and when he gets involved in these back and forths, he calls it like it is...No niceties..maybe because his time in Iraq gave him an "up close and personal" look at the enemy we face, and a clearer understanding as to why it'd be a disaster for America were Kerry to win. He doesn't suffer fools i these exchanges, and it's a good thing he doesn't. Maybe the Buish campaing should look at his appearances a little closer..study them carefully...

Apologies in advance for not including Ann Coulter. She's in a class by herself....but I was realy trying to focus on new, up and coming faces....

This weekend I was forced to watch Chris Matthews (tv at my gym) and noticed he had 4 liberal journalists as a 'panel' for discussion. The MSM used to throw in a token moderate/conserative like Broder or Safire, which I always took to be a token gesture. This practice now appears to be abandoned-now we get shades of liberal slant totally without recognition of the existence of a conservative perspective. I'm lookng for a new gym.

Worst: Aaron Brown on CNN ... he comes across as an aging, closeted queen.

I like Fred Barnes and Mort Kondrake. Mort's column has been picked up by my local paper and I get the feeling that he has some real integrity. I hope I'm not wrong.

I use to think that Mathews was at least fair...now he is the worst.
I like Brit because he backs stuff up and makes corrections based on fact.

Best: I can't pick a favorite conservative talking head because there really aren't any genuine conservatives on TV except for Hannity and he gets annoying at times even though he really pours his heart into it. I really like Bob Grant on radio. Worst: A three-way tie -- Carville/Begala/Matthews

I wanna see what you have to say when the Red Sox win the division, and the Yankees don't even make the wild card. They have NO pitching..Steinbreenner will scream louder and longer than HOward Dean..

I like Chris Wallace. He leans a little bit to the Dark side, but I think he can be fair.

I really love Major Garrett. He's really good at nailing the Democrats and their spin. David Asman, Neil Cavuto, Brian Kilmeade, Steve Doocy, and a few others. It's a slow day here as well. It's getting ready to rain and my brain wants to take a nap instead of making a list of favorite anchors. Hehe!

Yikes, so many to choose from. The one that leaps out at me is Ellen Ratner and I just despise Bill Schneider from CNN.
