seriously only islamists I ever "defended" if it can be called that is chechens. If look at my post history you will see what my opinion is on what to do with islamic crazies in Iraq, Afganistan etc(kill). Unfortunately many try to paint all of them the same color and to a certain degree its true but then how exactly was US using North alliance in Afganistan(muslims..), Kurds in Iraq(muslims). It the same mistake as it was to consider all communist states during cold war to be working on a single monster plan. China and USSR were enemies for big chunk of it and people didn't see it. It is just counterproductive to not see divisions and differences between your enemies.

I don't have any insider knowledge of current events and never claimed I do. My close friend from university served as a mercenary Mi24 pilot during the first Chechen war thats it.

I lived in Ukraine which during first Chechen war was pretty pro-Chechen, that had zero to do with them being muslim, Ukrainians on average hate muslims, during incidents in Azerbajan when Amenians were killed(Karabach etc) lots of muslims in Kiev got the shit beat out of them for no better reason then looking like muslim(some weren't) some I think ended up dead. Georgians on the city markets wore t-shirt saying "I am Georgian"(Ya Gruzin). Anyway instead of the sanitized Russian media picture of the war there, we got a quite a different view.

There were actual Ukrainian volunteers fighting there who were obviously Christian. There were Lithuanian volunteers too(some imaginary, remember the bs about Lithuanian women snipers in Russian media?) some were real and obviously non-muslim. Lithuanians perhaps wanted to pay back for OMON pogroms and tanks crushing students near Vilnus TV tower. Ukrainian were the radical nationalist movement members most of whom were from western Ukraine and just hated Russians. Their thinking was that if Russia is occupied in Chechnya it will keep its hands of Ukraine.

I realize that I wont be convincing anyone here about anything related to Chechnya. Most just don't know enough about it and don't really care, which is completely understandable given remote location and relative insignificance of the place. Some like you have Russian point of view which I know better then to try and change. Its like talking to Russians about Ukraine and its independence, pointless exercise in futility. For them we were/are/forever will be "chitryi chohly" and nothing more. On this note I make a promise to myself and to everyone here to never again post on the Chechen topic :)
