Israel actually has strict gun control. It's hard for civillians to get weapons unless they are in the reserves, live in a settlement, carry large amounts of cash, or are public transportation or cab drivers.

Excuse me, but isn't Israel a country where EVERY Jew is required to do a stint in the military, followed by being in Reserve status until his forties? SO the restrictions would mainly only exclude Palestinians?

...how about emigrees?

I would consider moving there some day if I could own firearms.

Since I wouldn't be allowed, FORGET IT!

That is some of the thinking in my opinion, as 20% of Israel's population is Arab. Every Jew has to do one, however there are exceptions. Some can do national, non-military service, and some like religious people, under law who wish to attend Yeshivas, and religious schools can be exempt. Some do the religious school in addition to military service together. Nonetheless, as you say, theoritically most Jews in Israel can receive a gun.

Yes, but the restrictions come down hard on ownership. Mostly 1 pistol, a long arm in the West Bank or Gaza. You're not talking about a tradition of gun ownership, though it's come a long way from the British model Israel started with.
