So what is an/the alternative ... besides water?

Beer.

Having said that, I drink whole milk only, pure butter (salted) and use bacon fat in a lot of my cooking, same as both of my granpas and my father, who all lived well into their late 80's, one GP until 96. That's long enough for me on this globe, for I know it is but a passing through on a journey to somewhere far better, and I'll enjoy my life here eating and drinking what pleases me.

These cradle to grave people can kiss my ass.

You'd think as paranoid as they are, they would be averse to doing so, but as long as one is a liberal, they don't seem to mind. Your food philosophy and heredity is similar to mine. Maybe we both just have good genes.

My father was 95 on Aug 8th. Has never followed a low fat diet, whole milk, butter, bacon, eggs. Has a beer with lunch everyday and "happy hour" every afternoon at 4:30PM sharp. And sometimes has wine with dinner. We joke that he has acheived the perfect balance of fat/alcohol intake to last another 30 years or so.

Now, he does eat prunes and bran flakes every morning for breakfast and always has fruit and a sandwich on whole wheat bread for lunch. Everyday for the past 70+ years!! But, he eats very little processed foods and sugar. Personally, I think sugar is the biggest problem in the current American diet, not fat.

And his mind is sharper than mine. Everything in moderation.

WONDERFUL nothingnew!! I love it!!

I am diabetic, and should be very careful what I eat and drink...but if I can't enjoy my food and drink, what is the use of living?
