Speaking of Eisenhower, how many people know that, even though he won a Distinguished Service Medal during WWI, he was never in combat?

Speaking of the Distinguished Service Medal, the DSM, how many people even know that it is not considered by the US military to be a combat related citation?

Thanks for the clarification. However, that was not the most important point. The point is, our top leader in WWII never saw combat. That is not a dig at Eisenhower, since he wanted to get to Europe but was considered more valuable doing what he did. The point is you can be a good leader without being in combat.
