"He's been given the benefit of the doubt by a public which thought of him as an "average sailor" in Viet Nam who became a policeman. But we now know he was a Green Beret for goodness sakes! He may have been the only guy in the water even capable of diving to the bottom for long periods of time to avoid the "firefight".

And he (as a well-trained warrior) also would have seen subsequently that there was no evidence of that firefight.

So why did he write up that citation for valor?"

What made him suspect to me was his "NEED" to prefaces his adoration upon JFKerry for "SAVING" him was that he was a "volvo" Republican. That was day one of his appearance in "saving" a sinking JFKerry campaign. WHAT difference did it make what "political" party he was, "IF" what he was claiming were true.

But what I'd like to know is why did he write the citation at the time? Was it cover for having been ineffective (to say the least) during the incident as the only real warrior in the group?

And once reminded of this charade years later he thought "What the heck? Milk it!"

Is that it?
