No, in fact I heard O'Neill again today reiterate that there:

O'Dell was on a local talk radio show in Houston today and he told the entire story without interruption. I'll try to get this right:

There were 5 boats in the group that day, 3 on the right side of the river, 2 on the left about 50 yards apart. They came upon a fishing net strung across the middle of the river, with just enough room for the PCF's to past next to the bank. The VC exploded the mine blowing PCF3 up out of the water; 3 guys fell in the water. O'Dell was behind PCF3, Kerry was on the opposite side of the river with Rassman, who was eating a chocolate chip cookie. When the mine exploded, O'Dell laid down fire on the bank. When he stopped shooting there was no return fire and they turned their attention to PCF3; Thurlow was helping get the men out of the water. Kerry took off and Rassman (no word on what happened to the cookie) ended up in the water. O'Dell thinks Rassman heard the fire when he (O'Dell) laid down fire on the bank. He said there was only ONE VC who got away but was caught the following week. Kerry filed the after action report. A caller specifically asked if anyone else in the group filed an after action report and O'Dell said no. He said Kerry "embellished" by adding the extra VC's.
