EMPIRE STRIKES BACK AGAINST ANTI-KERRY VETS

More than 3 weeks after the DRUDGE REPORT began shooting up flares warning of an impending campaign battle surrounding former Vietnam veterans who would not support John Kerry for president -- the media empire strikes back!

In a series of world exclusives begging in late July, this space outlined and detailed the coming book UNFIT FOR COMMAND -- a book which now sits at the top of the charts -- and the top of Friday's NY TIMES.

TIMES editor Bill Keller has reserved the lead of Page One for "the story of how swift boat veterans with a grievance were found by Republicans looking to tarnish Kerry's image," newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.

"A modern day tale of the creation of a political attack machine," declares TIMES reporter Jim Ruttenburg.

The TIMES plans to piggyback on comments made by John Kerry on Thursday against allegations that he exaggerated his combat record in Vietnam.

Kerry accused President Bush of using a Republican front group "to do his dirty work."

"Some of the veterans have recanted their stories and made charges that military records prove untrue," the TIMES explains in its 3,500-world splash, which has been previewed by DRUDGE.

Impacting late Thursday.

This does not upset me at all...Having the Slimes stake out this position completely validates the truth of everything contained in Unfit for Command. This is the MSM's first big mistake. Once this hits their front page, there will be no stopping it.

The harder they fight back, the more swing voters will slip through their grips.

Big mistake on Kerry's part. This just keeps him off message and doesn't give voters a reason to switch horses while at war. Voters need good reasons to change and don't need this kind of ongoing contraversy. Kerry is mistaken to engage them. He should have dumped all his records and ignored this by saying the current war is more important than the past and that he is confident about his military record.

By engaging he is keeping it front and center. Big mistake.

The New York Times, a John Kerry lap dog, has no choice but to try and destroy the SBVs. Problem is it won't happen. John Kerry is going down big time! the man is both a liar and traitor!!! End of story!!!

I just hope the new ad is bulletproof and addresses Kerry's anti-war behavior. People have had enough on the medals.

Kerry accused President Bush of using a Republican front group "to do his dirty work."

These brave men were his brothers in arms, and like he did when he returned from Nam to slander and trash them, now, he is doing it again. :-(

This is very good news. It proves these vets are really tearing Kerry a new one and he is hurting nationally from it.

The liberals have stepped into the Viet Cong booby trap here. They will HURT Kerry by attacking veterans. This is a sign of real desperation.

A salute to the Swiftboat guys for a job well done!

Typical of the Left. The only thing they care about is Kerry's "image." Symbolism over Substance, as Rush used to say about Clinton. We are revisiting the same phenomena, but with a candidate who just cannot pull off the lies like his predecessor did. The NYT is going to do its utmost, but will alas . . . fail. Truth, truth, truth, my friends . . . is always the eventual winner.

This is really dirty. I can't stand the Left. They are slandering the brave, decent Vietnam Vets all over again.

It's so sickening.

Kerry and the media work hand in glove. McCain's CFR is an unconstitutional, dissent destroying joke. We are losing the country.

It's so counterproductive for the left to be screaming about this book and ad.

Did Bush scream about F9/11 or the series of Bush bashing books?

All yelling does is bring attention to the issue.

Methinks they doth protest too much!!!

Yeah, like Kerry didn't know this morning before his speech was written that the Post would lash out at the vets on Thursday and the NY Times on Friday.

Sheesh.

We need to contrast and compare the Times "story" from the DNC talking points that were posted on Kerry's website.

What a pathetic bitch of the DNC has the Times become.
