President Kwasniewski has been a staunch defender of making the EU not forget Europe's Christian heritage. And he's an atheist.

(It's sad that the news media treats Michael Jackson better than our military.)

Yes, however I'm sure that he doesn't care about Europe's Christian heritage. He just knew that most people in Poland wanted It in EU Constitution, so he supported It.
Situation in Poland was very bad in 44-56. It had been the worst version of Communism, but later It was something like at Cuba today.
Even some people in my family were members of "Polish" Communist party, but of course they didn't believe in Communism. If someone wanted to get some good job, he just had to be member of this party.
What else should people in Poland do ? Start new uprising ?
What would have happened then ?
1. Soviets would have slaughtered us without any reaction in the West.
2. We would have started WW3.
These former Communists are rather something like Labor Party in U.K. or Democratic Party in USA. Reaction in the West was a little funny after they had won elections in Poland.
