I used to haul punch cards for my dad when he rented cpu time on weekends. That was early 70's, and the computer did less than my hp calculator.

Do the little punch-outs i used to throw in the river qualify?

Back in the 70s when I took Computer Science, which consisted mainly of Fortran IV for Scientists and Engineers, we entered our programs on Hollerith cards that we keyed on IBM keypunch machines. The 'bits' that were punched out, (later known as chads), ended up in a removable metal box, known as the Bit Bucket!
