the eye wall is not that big, so the really bad stuff will be within a tight circle. but that circle is moving into the harbor now.

How much evac took place, considering this was forecast to hit further up the coast??? A lot of lowlands down there. We have friends who live on one of the canals in Cape Coral.

I have an aunt and uncle in Port Charlotte and 2 sets of great aunts and uncles in Punta Gorda they live in trailers on a canal off of the Peace River.
My mom can't get through by phone to any of them. I sincerely hope they were smart enough to head inland.
May God protect your dad and all the people affected by this storm.

Yep, the winds wrapping around the hurricane have a long looping fetch now and will pile the water up in that harbor.

Ft. Meyers isn't out of the woods yet - they will be getting some storm surge wrapping around the storm now. YEp ..I would imagine Captiva and Sanibel Are completely submerged now, Water is probably barreling into Ft MYers itself too. They may have gotten away with 90 MPH winds in Myers, but they definately are getting the brunt of the surge.
I will be surprised if there are any standing structures on Sanibel Island, especially the Captiva end of it.

it looks like Orlando will actually get hit harder then Tampa, at least with regards to wind. Uh, my sons are in Deland....it is my d-i-l's Friday the 13th birthday...she is not happy.
Please don't tell me it is headed that way.
