Tornado warning for Chatham Co. and northeastern Wake Co. until 8:15pm.

(NC, not Florida)

The NE side of any hurricane is the most ferocious side of the hurricane itself, from the eye wall outward to the edge.

Eye seems to be east of St Pete now: A nasty band of leading showers is heading towards Ocala (up northwest of Orlando that stretches all the way from Melbourne (on the east coast south of Cape Canaveral) over towards Daytona and Silver Strings..

I remember a cartoon in the New Yorker after Hurricane Andrew. A woman on a palm shaded veranda holds an envelope and says to her mate, "its a check from Pesident Bush for our screen door". Well...I thought it was funny.

Could you mean Lakewood Ranch? Lakewood Ranch is a fairly large development by University Parkway (Sarasota/Manatee county line). That's 10+ miles from the Gulf so they should be OK. I'm in Sarasota and we have wind and rain right now. Getting a little stronger.

Yes, that is it.She said she was 3 miles east of l-75 I believe. When my husband called me, at first I thought he said it was on a " farm". Then he clarified Lakewood Ranch. So you think they would be ok????? has the hurricane passed over her by now???Sure hoping so . She is from Los Angeles, and has been through major earthquakes, but never a hurricane.

Good news is this thing is flying by. No stationary flood dump. Of course Andrew flew by too.

This is so typical of human nature. You get all these eastern Atlantic formations that the weather channel blabs about for a week then a storm forms and flies in gaining strength and nobody's had a chance to really hype it. Figures.

Yep. If it had been a "slow roller" type of category 4 storm, that would have been pretty devastating.

But that's true for east coast and Caribbean hurricanes.

Pacific and South Pacific and Indian Ocean hurricanes (typhoons and monsoons) behave somewhat differently.

Isn't that the truth. I heard an employee of a rental company boasting about the prices they were getting for generators after Andrew. I called the owner, threatened to tell everybody I met and refused to do business with him again. I doubt he dropped his prices, but I can guarantee he lost business.

Just a general political comment here - maybe it's already been suggested.

Bush needs to go to Florida now. I don't care how, or what part, but he needs to be there as soon as it is feasible to get him there. Even better, show him weathering the tail end of the storm. Why? He needs to show that he's on top of this, and you know damn well that Kerry will be racing him there.

My parents have a mobile home on Donegan Road (between East Bay and Ulmerton, and between Seminole Blvd and Keene Rd). I noticed their street was in a Level B evacuation area.

Do you have any sense of the damage there? Isn't northwest Seminole close to the Ulmerton/Seminole intersection? Memory fades on me as I age, dang it!

Does anyone at all know how hard Estero Island or Fort Myers Beach may have been hit?

Are you anywhere near The Villages of Lady Lake, Guenevere? I have a house and some lovely neighbours there.

I'm on the other side of the world right now and woke up this morning to CNN's news about the change in path/strength of this hurricane.

Know that Orlando's directly in its path now, but wondering about Leesville/Ocala.

Your input would be much appreciated...
