I confess I found this interview both unsettling and highly amusing. Brian is obviously a deeply introverted person, and is famous for his one sentence (or one word) answers to questions. The interviewer is getting a bit testy towards the end with "time warp" comment. Probably she thought she had an hours worth of questions, but the interview ended in probably fifteen minutes.
I read a hilarious story about Brian Wilson the other day. Apparently a famous, young musician asked him to sign a copy of "Pet Sounds". Brian signed it and wrote, "Thanks for the great songs", but then thought better of it and crossed out "great" and wrote "good" instead. It's recounted in an article on the website.

Few people better illustrate the term "tormented genius" than Brian Wilson. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of "Smile."

Are there any musicians under the age of 60 whom you admire? Not at all. I don't listen to any younger musicians.
Probably half the country would agree with this. Most everything I have heard in the past 25 plus years is just garbage.

"You know, Rolling Stones songs all sound kind of the same." - Brian Wilson
What a loon. The songs on Her Satanic Majesty's Request don't sound anything like those on Exile on Main St.. ....and there are countless other examples. The dude is completely fried.

I wish the person asking the questions had shown a little more respect, this is a man with mental dificulties, and a musical genius as close to a Bach as we have right now.
And Smile is a mindblowing composition.

I've taken most of this week off in order to do some work around the house and listened to Pet Sounds yesterday while glazing windows. It's an amazing album. Ironically, The Beach Boys (sans Wilson) played two nights ago at the Sioux Empire fair. I wonder how long Mike Love will continue to pick the bones of Brian Wilson's songs. I feel pity for Brian, I understand his father was a complete b*stard, and I have to wonder what all Brian would have wrote if he didn't discover drugs and druggists.

The Beach Boys made High School less hideous.

I saw a great TV interview with Brian Wilson at the piano a few years back; when discussing the Beach Boys' early sound, he asked the interviewer to "hold my nose." It was pretty funny.

Anyone know what the story is behind the lyrics "Lying in bed, just like Brian Wilson did"

It is highly ironic that the only Wilson brother still alive is Brian.

Interrrresting interrrrview, though not much of an interviewee. Will have to check out Wilco. The two BB albums immediately following Pet Sounds were perfectly good and have been reissued on a single CD, I see no point in revisiting Smile, though it can't be worse, I suppose, than the atrocious Let It Be Nekkid. He and we oughta let go, it's only pop music...

God bless Brian Wilson and all who sail with him....
How I love that man's music. He and the Beach Boys will alway be #1 with me. He's coming to my area in October - can't wait!

The admirable and the best thing about the Beach Boys was the cleanness of their music. They might have taken drugs and done evil things but their music didn't espouse it. They could have gotten away with putting a lot of nasty stuff in their music but didn't. Their stuff wasn't palpably "destroy innocence" oriented. It would have hurt people. How many young people today even know what "Wouldn't It Be Nice!" is about.
