I can't think of what I could have done better in the limited time and from a cold sitting start.

I would have liked to impose my bulk between him and danger, but I would have had to go thru the center of the furball to get there. Somehow coming out of nowhere in the middle of the guns drawn situation seems like it would have only added to his danger.

The worst part was that we were separated. Had he still been at the table, I suppose I could have kicked his chair out from under him and raced him to the floor.

As it was, all I could do was sit like a lump, watch and depend on their professionalism.
