"How does someone who doesn't speak English ask directions to the airport?" Thankfully, not very well! Otherwise the guys working at the gas station wouldn't have felt the need to call the police because of the drivers suspicious behavior.
Reminds me of the DC sniper incident; it was ordinary citizens who reported their suspicions and that is how Malvo and his buddy were caught.
