I have no idea if this means anything, or has been commented on, but this afternoon around 4:45 on DC metro Red Line there were 2 heavily armed "SWAT" metro police at Farragut North station (east side of Connecticut/L St entrance) watching everyone who entered the station; on the first train I got on (Red Line towards Shady Grove) there was a specific announcement by the operator to watch out for unattended or suspicious packages and to report them to the operator on the intercom at the end of each car. I have seen the armed Metro police before during heightened alerts, but have never heard such a specific announcement by a train operator, as opposed to system-wide general announcements in all stations.
I think most of that facility is deep underground, impenetrable to anything except nuclear bunker busters (like the Libya facility, inside that mountain) - they just can't take it our like they did to Iraq's years ago.
