I can't believe you are comparing the California recall race to the Illinois senate race. The two are very different.

Keyes is not electable. He screams from the podium and he doesn't even live in the state.

The race is ridiculous.

In the end, Keyes will receive about 35% of the vote.

No, I'm saying Dr Keyes should find out which of those issues resonate with the voters of Illinois & then campaign on them. Seems pretty basic to me. Maybe Illinois has more ag issues than Maryland - just might be.

Gotta start somewhere, I guess. I'm skeptical about Keyes, but two days after he announces, before he gets to make any appearances or do any campaigning, it's definitely way too early to judge.

The Illinois GOP had a perfectly fine candidate, Jim Oberweiss, who finished second to Ryan in the primary. Oberweiss was blackballed by the inept/corrupt GOP party apparatus of George Ryan, who thought his anti-immigration message would hurt their delusions of Hispanic appeal.

Tho I didn't support Oberweiss in the primary (I'm anti-anti-immigration) I could se he was a serious candidate, with a serious message, and serious money. By nominating Keyes, the state GOP -- especially "leader" Judy Barr Topinka -- come off as amateur, stupid, inept. This is pretty much the nail in the state GOP coffin.

Keyes is a fine man, but he is not going to win this election. Us Republicans screwed up big time in nominating a pervert. Obviously many Republicans were not out to do that, but it strains credibility to suppose that the Republican powers that be in Illinois did not have some hint that Ryan had some "issues." The Dems' obviously knew it. Neither Ryan nor his ex-wife wanted these records made public, but they were made public. That would lead any reasonable observer to conclude that someone in the Democratic camp knew what was in those records and pushed for their disclosure. If the Dems knew the power of the ammo in those divorce records, then the Republicans (who nominated the pervert) should have known as well.

All true Republicans owe a debt to Mr. Keyes who has agreed to take on the task of being offered up as a sacrifice to a most attractive candidate that the Donkey machine has put up in Illinois.

Why? Keyes is only well known to political junkies. Most people don't even know who he is. It would be tough for Reagan himself to beat Obama with this headstart. At least Keyes states the conservative view with passion. I think he'll win some folks to our side even in a big loss.
